Did you perform the recommended brake fluid replacement? Many people skip that, which is a mistake. Honestly, you should just follow the Honda recommended maintenance schedule, with the option of performing the maintenance more often than recommended being just fine, but not later.
You don't have to take your car to the dealership for maintenance, in order to keep your warranty valid. There are laws against forcing people to use dealerships for maintenance.
I change the oil in my car at 5k miles, which is pretty much right at one year. I don't believe that the oil...
I switched to Quaker State after reading through testing info on this site... https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/2013/06/20/motor-oil-wear-test-ranking/
I don't consider this info gospel, but I think there is a method to the madness. Call it the ultimate oil quality rabbit hole...
BTW, Amsoil...
Are you stretching your change interval, to the point of justifying the high cost of Amsoil? Amsoil resists breakdown with high mileage, but it doesn't produce less wear, except if the oil used is breaking down.
$55 CAD = $40 USD
My last oil purchase was $43 USD for two 5 quart jugs of Quaker State synthetic. I previously used Castrol Magnatec, before it was discontinued. I'm not picky, as long as the oil is synthetic, preferably from a major brand, I'm good.
Oil dilution occurs when gasoline slips past the rings, and gets into the crankcase oil. What may be happening, is the thicker oil is blocking the gas at the oil rings. 40 weight oil is quite thick for these engines, though. The bearing clearances are not set up for such thick oil. Proof is...
OMG!!!! 92k on the first crush washer! You can't be trusted!! (Just kidding!)
Well done, sir!
I'm too cheap to run Amsoil. I can appreciate that it's great oil, though.
I've run a few changes with 5W-30, and compared to 0W-20, in my experience, the engine feels smoother, and a touch...
Dude, I'm not butt hurt by someone saying I'm dumb to reuse the crush washer. I don't care what others say. I own my comment, and provided technical justification and reasoning. Where is your technical justification for double changing your oil?
7 times reusing the same crush washer is just the beginning! I plan to continue, even though I do have spares. When tightening the drain screw, I can feel the washer crushing down as the screw snugs up. As long as I can feel the crush, I'm good to go. I do not use a torque wrench either...
When you come with something as ridiculous as double changing the oil, you better to be ready to either defend with technical justification, or accept your drubbing.
Charlie, you are to be congratulaed for doing your part in support of the local school busses running recycled oil in your area. That high quality base you are donating will make some dynamite bulk reclaimed oil for the fleet!
