I'm always hitting about 500 miles on a tank before the miles remaining hit zero... I've driven the vehicle for almost 5000 miles and am averaging about 44 mpg.
I first thought it lacked visibility, but I now believe it was because I was so used to the wide open space of the Golf. Now it feels quite normal. If anything I'm simply more cognizant of where cars are in proximity to me...
This may be the case, however I love my hatchback. I live in So Cal and see a LOT of civic sedans but relatively few hatches in comparison. And for me, the hatch looks much nicer in person than in pics. And that turbo is really lively and actually gets the same or better mpg than the sedan...
Being from Indiana probably helps. But I probably should have also done some more homework. Kinda shameful for a guy in my line of work. :) Oh well. "it's only money." This is still a huge savings from the Stingray I almost bought, so I'm feeling very good right now.

This reminds me how thankful I am for my highway driving, which I'm doing about 90 pct of the time. My car spends probably the same percentage of its 'life' in cruise control. When I fill my '17 Civic Hatch it's taking about 10 gallons of gas, and that after 400+ miles of driving. Yes, I'm...
I'm Charles.. 41 yr old single father, AF vet and current DoD career employee, avid fitness freak, etc. Bought a '17 Civic Hatch a couple weeks ago and enjoying everything about it. Glad to be here.
The 2017 VW Golf..
I had a 2012 TDI Golf, which was the best car I've ever owned, but it was taken in the buy-back (Thank you VW for paying me THREE times it's market value).
I went round and round with the VW dealer about me being a "good customer." They wouldn't give me the 1000 rebate...
