Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 735D2717-7E42-4840-A58F-A7538D11E680

Next, the HKS BOV instructions call for the intake to be removed. Eventuri’s V2 MAF upgrade makes this step super easy. Unplug the MAF sensor which is now located external of the airbox.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 211BAED2-35B6-44A5-B311-C9D238C70907

Unclip the rubber seal.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 24502533-AF5D-4559-BF24-3E2232DE638F

Loosen this hose clamp using an 8mm nutdriver, socket or flat screwdriver.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 33FBC859-6747-4AF2-8186-51C7D214B757

Then undo these (2) bolts using a 10mm socket, ratchet and extension.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 73FB444C-A52D-4840-B32E-F99CCE2E52D9

Carefully wiggle the airbox to free it from the rubber grommet underneath, then lift out.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R AF239BEC-9A67-4909-B4E4-7AA93603F39F
Eventuri airbox removed. The blue X marks the OEM air intake piping that will be replaced by the HKS BOV kit.

Random question, when you remove the battery and reinstall it, does it mess with the headunit at all like it does for other vehicles where you need to enter a code?

It will reset it but you won't have to enter the code with typeR, you just have to drive for little bit and it will be all good

Hi AlphaDigital,
Here is a link to the weird error messages you will see when starting car after the battery is reconnected. Won’t be able to switch to type R mode at first. Drive a short distance... maybe a couple blocks. Turn off then restart the car and it will return to normal as saint365 mentioned :)

It actually looks for the matching vin number thats stored in the ECU before turning on the first time after completely loosing power. I know that becuase when i left my battery out for a extended perioud of time it did not turn back on. I called motec and they advised me on my issue.

Edit- the fix was to put the stock ecu back in and turn the accessory mode on until it started, then turn the car off off and re install motec ecu @fatherpain

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 66BA6E85-A13B-4AAC-8D8D-D7E4A6E73087

As previously mentioned, the Eventuri intake is not compatible with included HKS BOV hardware... So won’t be using these pieces.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 565FD2F7-9647-4EB5-8D67-1A7333B45242

Will use this adapter kit available through Evasive Motorsports for $40.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 70F57A29-2EEF-4BFF-8038-25A5BBB50CE6

The kit comes with this plug, but it won’t be used for my car’s configuration. It’s a good idea to save it however, just in case.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 2BC399F6-AD2F-4386-A18E-F27DE7E7F997

HKS BOV Kit piping ready to install.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 52B77477-487F-4F62-9D22-F8D6E27673D2

Carefully insert the pipe to the factory location. Slide the hoses back on at both ends and re-tighten the hose clamps.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 2E4FA029-1727-40BD-BB93-43BC421F7BF3

Reconnect this sensor from earlier.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R D4E9831C-A208-49D8-85FD-E6F2296245E8

Apply teflon tape to the HKS 8mm hose fitting.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R B6757FD5-515D-4D9A-BBF5-51F127C4D6BE

Then install to this position using a 12mm combo.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 64B6F8AB-2B6E-4F09-9690-77BF92E479E6

Attach the factory brackets to the HKS pipe using the OEM bolts removed earlier.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 2468DDA6-37BC-45D3-9D3B-5E79BC8148C2

Remove this bolt securing the heater hose bracket.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 8349E3B9-4BF1-494D-B381-735F8AF0DFB0

Bolt will not be re-used.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 331B6349-61E5-4A20-8E46-C509E353AF87

Orient the support bracket supplied in the Evasive Eventuri adapter kit like this.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R BC34385F-B4DD-4BA9-9CD4-A3035961E9CD

Apply anti-seize and Line up with the heater hose bracket and carefully thread it in.

Nothing is more annoying than dropping something into the engine bay, for it to pachinko down and get stuck somewhere.

Yes, this did happen a couple times during this install and had to waste time retrieving it. :banghead:

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 3532DCD5-3515-440C-B736-B16C62D665EC

Tighten using a 10mm socket.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 448C074E-B226-4833-B5BF-8C0E32231EA2
Orient the bracket horizontally for the BOV to attach, before tightening.

Did you notice any difference with the J's front strut bar after installation on the track? A friend said the R doesn't need one and the TCR Honda track car doesn't use one.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 21E53082-6E27-4F23-82E1-E2931E3264BE

HKS blow off valve ready to mount. Note the location of the HKS M8-15 bolt, lock washer and flat washer. Temporarily installed to show where it will engage the mounting bracket from previous post.

Btw, the HKS BOV looks like a photon torpedo straight out of Star Trek :headbang:

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 1C3467DE-39A7-409C-A5FC-41F7F0134126

Make sure to add a dab of anti-seize.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R BB911B58-52DF-4940-8080-4F51DD8E7E52

Align the BOV to the bracket then install. There isn’t room for it to sit straight up so left it at a slight angle sideways.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 2CBB94C0-378A-4DB8-8849-0FB46DCD217F

Now connect this rubber tube. It’s a pain to slide the hose clamp on with the BOV in place, because there isn’t much clearance between the bolt head and hose. Turned the flat of the bolt to maximize space. Installed the hose and clamp with the other end off, so could angle it in.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 872734DE-3B0F-4859-8E93-871CA1D1B41E

Reconnect the vacuum hose and clamp. Be sure the edge of the larger hose clamp doesn’t rub the vacuum line.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 755868CA-6803-443D-BD16-75544957E59C
Make sure all hose clamps are in place and tight. Next up is to route some vacuum lines.

Install continued here

saint365, do you prefer the sound of the purple over the one that comes standard?

In what ways is it different?

Have purple and gold, so will experiment to see which suits my taste. Looked briefly and it seems to be a matter of undoing some small Allen heads to change them out. Are there any “gotcha”’s to be aware of?

The EVS adapter issue is disappointing to hear. Haven’t completed the install with the Eventuri yet. Will report what back when it’s done. Hopefully it won’t be too much trouble to make work.

No Issues since installed which is about 2 years now. changed out bov sound by changing front to purple and now it make more intakes sounds then whooosh sounds.

For me even with EVS bracket, it was still rubbing with eventuri so I ended up getting whole HKS setup. Can't wait to see your installation process..where I struggled installing mine lol

Hey there Zpeedster M,
Can’t say I noticed any difference. That said, Please keep in mind I am new to track performance driving and still getting acclimated to how the car feels when pushed hard.

However, can say the car felt great at Big Willow, until the tires wore out and got a little greasy towards the end. The rear tires would slide out a little under hard cornering.

Still learning track lingo, so wondering if that is what I’ve seen others refer to at getting the car to “rotate”?

Hopefully the tower brace adds something.

If not, will still use to mount the JRZ RS Pro coilover remote reservoirs, similar to the photo above.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R BAC5D2E9-1F6B-413F-BCCE-F6D275B00D03

Instead of drilled, they will be welded to the J’s Racing strut bar using these custom aluminum brackets that my buddy fabricated along with Rennscot octagonal reservoir holders.

Did you notice any difference with the J's front strut bar after installation on the track? A friend said the R doesn't need one and the TCR Honda track car doesn't use one.

Hey, from my experience standard noise is more of traditional bov whistle noise and when I changed to Purple, now high pitch whistle noise is gone but more of intake air sounds but louder.
Haven't tried the gold yet.
As we are probably aware... when removing small allens heads, be sure to not to drop it.. otherwise it's hell lol
As for Eventuri adapter by EVS, I didn't like how BOV was sitting in kinda of angles.
Can't wait to hear your opinions of bov sounds when changing to purple and gold.

My wife sprung a surprise family camping trip along with some friends in nearby Laguna Beach... so the HKS BOV install was briefly put on hold.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 17278CDE-EDD5-4EFB-AF39-AA42DEC22921
Tide pools are pretty fantastic there. My son and his buddy found a huge lobster.
I had to work each day, but made it time for low tide.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 0DF51848-A1D0-407F-B88F-D47E6139D59E

We found several of these cool wiggly starfish dudes.

Our holy grail when visiting tide pools has always been finding an octopus... but we’ve never located one. ?.

Instead, found one of these super rare, beautiful venomous nudibranch‘s.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R F8154302-B018-44B2-829E-2E363F6988B3
Got home Sunday and picked up where I left off... Configuring hose connections for the HKS BOV.

The top connector of “C” gets disconnected and segment “D” is removed entirely.

I have a Radium CCV oil catch can and found it necessary to undo the hoses to get space to work.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 6CA09280-BA91-4EC8-A76B-D118C5D343D8
The hose ends are stubborn to come off, so used some Kroil.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 6B49AC7E-336D-4FFC-9AB6-9EE49673DCA7
A flat head screwdriver worked well to dislodge “C

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R C7946E5F-DF51-46F9-8DEB-3E29A35AA0F6

Then pulled “C” to the side.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 7A0C36B9-D789-401F-9465-50F455C5DE63
Removing “D” was a little trickier. The screwdriver wasn’t effective so used a needle nose. Grabbed the end, got some kroil inside then twisted off.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R B1D9B5EF-A8E1-4666-A0CA-1B4C4F451C21

Channel locks worked great to pull “D” off by using as a fulcrum on the silver bolt head.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R D59B9399-03DD-4487-85AD-23703C34184C

“D” hose entirely removed. It will be replaced by a new piece of hose included with the kit.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R D0F6AE5F-AA54-4326-8F2B-0E9D27B709FD
(3) 6mm rubber caps and (1) 4mm rubber cap are included with the kit. (One not pictured.)

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 269537B5-F296-4DEB-A9C9-54B51132DE02

A 6mm cap goes on the upper connection of “D” and a 4mm goes on “C”

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 403C36C9-7021-4B77-A456-5FA183BE46C6

This 4mm to 6mm adapter will be installed to the loose hose end of “C”.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 0C2E0B5F-5B60-4351-B07F-9657139F954F

Like this. For all hose connections be sure a clamp secures it.

Here is a clear view of “D” where the supplied 6mm hose connects to.
