I picked up my 2020 type r on may 9th and mainly planned on tracking the car. Decided to make a thread for myself and anyone else who actually wants to follow. I am based out of Pittsburgh, pa so most of my track day will be at PittRace. The first one I was able to sign up for is on August 18th.

Installed the radium engineering coolant tank a few weeks ago. When ordering make sure it is for the type r. The universal one came up when I searched for the tank and will also say it fits your car as it’s a universal part. I did not realize this at all until installing and realizing the bracket and some fittings were not right. Ended up having to next day air one. The actual tank part was the same so I was able to send the unassembled tank from my new kit back with the universal one to get a full refund. Cost me a couple days and an extra $20 to air one plus return shipping for the other. Other than that the install went very smooth and am very impressed with the quality. I mainly bought for heat cycling reasons for tracking but it also dresses up the bay nicely.

At the same time I also installed the radium engineering oil catch can. I know there’s a whole debate on weather they’re actually useful or not but for under $200 it’s nice for peace of mind. If nothing else the quality is top notch and pairs nicely with the coolant tank. Install was very straight forward with both as they made YouTube video instructions. Follow that and you won’t have any issues.

Installed my apr performance gt-250 wing recently. First off the packaging of this wing was amazing. I’m pretty sure it would have survived a two story fall. But anyways the quality was perfect and the instructions were provided and very easy to understand although it is very straight forward. Mounts using factory mounting points. They provide you new bolts for the apr wing. All together I think it took 20-25 mins taking the stock wing off and installing the apr wing. Very happy with it thus far.

Nice! you sir are apart of a small percentage that actually buys parts for a purpose and actually going to utilize the car for its strengths vs trying to build a drag car....

I have an Si that I track and my buddy let me drive his Type R for A couple laps. On the 2nd laps not going 100% I shaved 4 seconds off my lap time. Type R is an amazing car.

This weekend I got the car ready for the track day on Tuesday so I swapped my stock pads with raybestos racing pads, changed the brake fluid to motul 660 and installed sakebomb garage stainless brake lines. Pads took about 5 mins per side as with all brembo calipers. The brake lines were also very simple. Break loose the two 10mm hard lines from the rubber line. Then 3 12mm bolts holding the line in and then throw in the stainless line. Took about 10 mins per side. Then I had my dad help me bleed the brakes. Just had him pour in the brake fluid as I have a vacuum brake bleed system and just didn’t want to accidentally let it get low and get air back in the line and waste expensive brake fluid. I bedded in the brakes and it’s crazy how well these pads work once heated up. I have a feeling they’re gonna tear through these rotors though.

First track day in the type r was today 08/18/20 at Pittsburgh international race complex. Temperature was 81 most of the day. I had zero issues with cooling which I believe is cause of the low ambient temps. I still don’t believe it’s solved but only time will tell. I don’t see the car being in any higher temp track days till next year though. By then I’ll have most likely have a bunch of cooling mods done. So far I love how well the car handles stock but always room for improvement. One thing I’d really like to get soon is harnesses. The seats do an okay job at holding you but I did feel like I was trying to hang on a lot from having a normal seat belt. What does everyone use to keep their lap times? I was hoping Honda’s app would be out by now but whatever. Also love the hankook rs4s but always open to other opinions on tires.

What tires are you running? I bought a set of ts-5 same size as yours, but still deciding between 255/40/18 and 265/35/18
