For those interested, here's some compiled data, in regards to engine failures, AKA blown motors, specifically for base models. Although many of us have known this for some time now, it appears there's a higher failure rate of cars running ethanol on Hondata. The data also seems to indicate that CVTS are more likely to fail on a basemap, whereas 6MT are more likely to fail with custom tuning. Obviously, the sample size here is relatively small, but it is what is... ?‍♂ For those that find it useful, take from it what you will...

So it appears that if you keep it stock, no failure.
Seems pretty simple.
Don't buy an economy car if you want a sports car.
Problem solved.... next?
I think you forget that it's still a civic... older civics were introduced as an economy car but look at where we are now with all the power they push.

Sure if you want reliability and economy then keep it stock, but I highly doubt that most of the people that blew their engines thought their car was going to run forever with the numbers they have.

Proper maintenance is the key if you’re running stock and driving it like a granny.

Some people just keep it stock but lack the maintenance that the car and engine needs and it is one of the factors to be considered for a mechanical failure.

Others modify their car but does a lot of maintenance and care to ensure everything is in optimal or perfect running condition.

In all kindness, what is the point of this thread? There is no actual information to chew on. Like a list of people who got sick with no symptoms or illness noted.

I blocked a lady from doing an illegal lane change in front of me from a right turn lane into the traffic lane. She was screaming, waving her arms and tried to chase me down. I raced away and bounced my 1.5 Fit off the rev limiter and then a few miles later while taking a turn at excessive speed, my briefcase fell over and knocked the shifter into neutral bouncing it off the rev limiter again, LOL. Fun times with the crazy drivers around here, me included.

So, can someone tell me what the take away is ....I have an 18 EX-T CVT.... JUST PUT IN COBRA C.A.I...... SO NO TUNES??? I'm so fn bummed and passed off at myself. I was literally like a fn kid again when I got this car. I was daydreaming about all shit I was going to do and blah blah blah.... it's over...... just like that, it's game over. They CAN see a tune even if you quickly reflash it so wtf..... ow all those other cars are all d.o.a. now..... fuck it, who wants this fu@%I g thing??? Sell right now.

The take away is there is always a risk when tuning a car. But running a tune doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to ruin your engine. These are just the cases with engine problems. The vast majority of tuned 10gens have been running fine while even putting done close to 300whp. Go on any forum for any car and the same thing happens. If you are up for it check out https://www.civicx.com/forum/thread...ence-reliability-thread-for-all-models.42361/ that thread has a full breakdown of almost everything about tuned 10gens and should help ease your mind.

You're screwed, only the touring sedans are built stronger, I know about 3 guys with touring sedan whose putting down 300 to the wheels,, and they're abusing it too, just look at this guy doing drag races with a damn CVT

He's abusing the cvt and it's not breaking, I also know 2 more guys whose doing this, but they have touring sedans,
