Doh... got nailed by a rock while driving on the freeway. Called the dealer to check how much to replace and was quoted:

$650 for the windshield
$504 for labor to install

What a rip. Fortunately insurance will cover the repair with a $250 deductible.. A little less painful ?

Thank you kimtyson, it’s either that or gotta buy her a new or newer car.. ?

Our sons will be driving soon and trying to delay doing so until the Type R is paid off. (1) $700 per month car payment is enough...?

Hoping to squeeze a few more years out of old faithful ;)

With 2-3 days of hard labor on my wife’s RAV4 behind me, tackled something easy and way overdue. Changing the cabin air filter.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R CB52AD2E-AA2F-4217-9FF1-271FE1DF7D09
Cabin filter is located behind the glovebox. The glovebox has (2) cutouts that will release it when compressed.

Remove this cover to access the filter element.

Like this. Look at that dirty birdy!

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R BD74162F-7DD9-4469-AA72-C44B7830C600

Yuck. Here’s my filter @34k miles. Should have changed it way sooner. Have been so busy modding forgot to do the basics ?

Put the cover and glove box back and recheck in 10-15k miles... don’t wait as long as I did **cough, wheeze**

Here is where I found my valve cover leak. Engine cover removed. Found it towards the rear on the driver’s side.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 7100B165-C3E8-4C7D-8BFB-53400FBB8EB3

With battery terminals disconnected, pulled this plastic wiring manifold back a little to see. This catch groove was filled with oil.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 138F0C51-3EB3-430C-A3BC-3256E9245230

A closer look. Evidence of an oil leak.

More evidence. Pretty sure if the upper oil dripping down was due to the crappy Superstik dipstick which doesn’t seal and allowed blow by. Suggest taking it in for warranty repair if have this issue.

Followed a youtube install video for the Miromoto fog lights and got screwed, (literally). Cut the (2) upper tabs and installed as instructed. Didn’t realize more trimming was needed to until analyzing the 2nd fog for proper fitment.

Made the additional adjustments for the first fog to sit flush, then noticed the plastic tabs on the housing had bent. When i tried to straighten it out, the tab snapped off.

No worries right? Wrong. TRS said Miromoto doesn’t sell replacement housings. The only recourse was to buy another complete set. What a bunch of BS! ?

Tried repairing with JB Weld, but it didn’t take. (Probably will make another attempt at some point.)

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R E0E73C11-8B6E-4E05-853F-AA6CF2DFEF60

The fog seemed ok with just (1) screw holding it, along with a piece of duct tape + the fake vent also keeps it in place, but that’s so Mickey Mouse... Especially for a Type R owner suffering from serious undiagnosed OCD. ?

Ordered another set of Morimoto fogs. This time in yellow. They also are smoked, which I like.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R C64F8498-A845-4CC9-AF3E-01EB2F5AFF21

Purchased the optional yellow PFF but not installing for now.

Smoked yellow Morimoto fog lights installed.

Lit up, the yellow looks pretty good. Can switch back to the regular white set within minutes.

It’s difficult to capture how the lights look at night. IPhone pictures catch a lot of glare...But this should give a good idea.

After (1) week at Beto’s Paint and Body, the J’s Racing vented hood was ready. Agonized over which paint scheme to go with, but ultimately followed boosted180sx’s sound advice to play it safe and leave just the vents exposed.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R A63F13B6-73B1-4B12-B3B0-8DBD105D38EC

CF side vent.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 1203D15E-EF63-4012-8845-EC7DA8D7D3D4

Also left the inner edges of the center vent
unpainted.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 03DCF7EF-048D-4F13-82DD-75D05EECE3E1

Transported the hood home on a bed of bubble wrap to protect it.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 627AC54B-6AC7-436C-8AA7-9223B879470E

The J’s hood had some instructions in Japanese but they didn’t look specific to the Type R, so opened the hood to figure out what to do.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R A4E4DF2A-D043-41A0-A6AB-3D47E0515105
These windshield washing nozzles looked like a pain to remove, especially with the aluminum guard riveted in place, so left them alone and ordered a new set from Honda Parts

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R D4B7415F-B399-49E6-A0ED-F0D09E47D512

Disconnected this wash tube.

And set it out of the way to be connected to the new wash equipment when it arrives.

The OEM hood is held on by (2) bolts on each hinge that takes a 10mm socket. Had my oldest son support the other end of the hood while I removed them.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R E05F84AC-49B2-4301-9826-351DEFD877C2
OEM hood removed.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 66704A1C-6F43-4CE7-9FC0-F05C7B59E913

Put a dab of anti seize on the J’s supplied bolts then tightened snug but didn’t kill it. Didn’t want to risk cracking the FRP.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 10726A89-EAA6-4082-9020-67296C963A53

Transferred this upper black plastic piece from the OEM hood then installed the J’s hood latch ring.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R C0A46F40-5FD5-4B6F-8D25-C933073CEBFB

Hood installed! Took about (20) minutes. For it to close, need to drop it from a height of about 6”.

The J’s Racing Hood is used on Honda’s HPD Type R, so technically it’s still OEM, ?

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 0E380054-66E0-4784-B78B-6585F9675092

Have a lot of black towards the front of the car. Considering Varis fender extensions and painting black or wrapping in CF to provide some visual balance.

Still needs to have PPF and ceramic applied, but need to wait (30) days for the paint and clear coat to cure. Will do the J’s grill at the same time.

No problem :). Unfortunately I don’t have that answer yet, as the film is not applied and not sure if they will be, since the Morimotos are smoked and matches the current color scheme.

Thanks, they fit exact or you had to cut a litle bit?
