The seal on my 2019 is starting to do that on one side too. It sucks because I had that peice covered in PPF so I'd rather not replace it. Thought about trying to either glue it down or cut off the curled edge.

Pretty sure you would be ok. They only replace the rubber seal, not the side panel itself ;)

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 6FAB782A-0B2F-49D5-BF0C-ECF2790D5D2E
Had a day off for a change. Boys were in school and my wife was running errands, so paid a visit to another SoCal iconic shop. This time J’s Racing, USA. Turned out to be a no frills warehouse as opposed to a full retail shop. But the owner was very cool and they had the goods ;)

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 6382EC61-969D-4758-926E-19EB92AB10C1
Was hoping to see the J’s Racing hood in person and lo and behold, they had one in stock. Carbon Fiber/FRP combo. Unfortunately, it was already spoken for, otherwise I may have made a move ;)
Typical wait time is 4-5 months they said.
**update ordered one**

Was able to confirm it has a rain guard. It’s held in place by a bunch of plastic push pins. Interestingly, the owner said the Carbon Fiber and FRP hoods weigh the same. Didn’t expect that. Said Honda is using FRP for the Type R TC.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R BE230D86-751E-4AC1-9394-1A1745C1F006
Pretty sure I will look to add a cooling hood along with a free flowing grill, as a future mod. Debating whether to go with the J’s hood and grill or Varis hood and bumper. Both seem like great options, though pricey. If had to choose today, I’d probably go with J’s even though their grill resembles the mouth of a whaleshark, heh... May also wait to see how the 2020 OEM grill turns out.

Really liking the look of the Honda Type R - TC so may try to emulate that, but in CW ;)

Ah yes, Nitroturtle, you are correct, apologies. Dropped off the car then picked it up afterwards, so didn’t witness the fix. Just called to check and the service advisor and technician that performed the work are off today, however the notes in the system say they replaced the entire garnish...

Doh that means I’ll need to get those panels ceramic coated, heh.

Cleaned the exhaust for the first time, after researching safe methods to do so. Microfiber cloth seems to be universally recommended. Saw mention of using WD40, brake cleaner, glass cleaner, metal polish and alcohol.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 9DE4AEA8-8EB9-461D-990C-8A95D706F15D

Couldn’t find my WD40 so used some brake cleaner and Penetrol 40.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 074A4C1B-FE27-42E2-9AB4-6B67648CF6A5

Here is how the exhaust looked prior to cleaning. About (7) months overdue.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R C98DDF38-8BEE-442C-9193-5382EFCF580B
After cleaning. Looks much better, though there are a couple smail oxidation spots that will require metal polish to get rid of.

Another angle. Cleaned the inside and outside as best I could without raising the car with my lift. Just took a few minutes to do and improved the appearance. Will incorporate this into my car wash routine from now on ;)

The Type R TC uses the same grill you can pickup on eBay and Amazon for around $110. I've been on the fence of getting it. The increased cooling is a huge plus, also it would be nice to have a different grill than every other Civic strolling around. Only thing holding me back is mixed reviews on fitment some say its spot on others say its decent. I'd rather stay with the perfect fitting OEM one if that one has gaps and doesn't fit right. Also it seems like no one can give a for sure answer on the H emblem, some say the FK8 one fits others say you need a FD2R badge and need to heat it up and bend it onto the grill. I'll probably wing it and buy the grill and see how it fits, if it fits good I'll spend the extra money on a H emblem. The J's grill is pretty nice, but with that price and people complaining it has fitment issues I'd rather deal with the TC grill or just stay OEM. I've also thought about cutting the stock one but knowing me I'd end up ruining the stock one.

Thank you Joseph, for the heads up on the J’s grille fitment issues. Pumping the brakes on that for the time being. Considering the price tag and 4-6 month wait time, fitment should be spot on, smh.

Also want to wait to see the new 2020 OEM grills before committing ;)

EVS Tuning grill is nice, but also pricey. It is a OEM fitment with more airflow.

Noticed the AC was no longer blowing cold. The dealership just topped it off last week, so thought maybe something was inadvertently left loose.

Took it back and the service advisor reminded me they had originally suspected a leak, heh.

The AC Evaporator and condenser are being replaced free under warranty, even though I disturbed that AC connector that resulted in the original discharge. They said that was not the cause of the leaks.

Unfortunately, to access the condenser, the need to remove and reinstall the intercooler and oil cooler, which will result in a $280 labor charge, because they are aftermarket.

That said, I’m grateful they are honoring the warranty even though the car is modded. Hopefully everything is reinstalled correctly as those were just dialed in, heh.

I was about to order the TC style grill since I was able to find it on Amazon for $70 with free shipping, cheap enough to take my chances on fitment but unfortunately at that price no one ships to APO. $120 is the cheapest I found that ships over here. Kept doing some research and tons of people have fitment issues with it with the upper tabs not fitting properly resulting in a noticeable gap and some having gaps near the side of the headlights. Going to pass on that option for now. Im wondering when the 2020 grills will be up for sale at dealers, I don't think Honda plans on bring out the 2020 till late this year.

That seems the smartest move. Gonna to do the same and wait to see how the 2020 grill looks. OEM fitment should be perfect and probably will have similar airflow.

Put a deposit on a J’s racing hood. Expected wait time is (6) months, so will be interesting to see if the 2020 grill will be available for purchase by the time it arrives.

Decided to give the Superstik oil dipstick a try. It is marketed to be easy to read and provide accurate, repeatable results. In my haste, ordered direct and paid full boat, then saw an Si owner share a clearance link from Map Performance. He later posted it didn’t fit his car when he received it :(

Fortunately, the one I received appears to fit the Type R, A-Ok **EDIT - Superstik is suitable only as a tool for measuring oil level. Oil leaked by under hard driving at the track

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 74E96D45-C6F9-4962-BF3A-0C90EEB261CC

Full side by side comparison

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 9530CF47-0AB3-439F-8152-5C4BB504C956

The Superstik has a button to press and hold before inserting it fully, so it will vent and the oil level won’t be pushed by air. This allows for an accurate, repeatable reading.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 43396951-3AF6-4177-80D2-32F519BD56E1

Tip comparison. The Superstik has a coating that resembles a sandblast effect. The color makes it much easier to see an oil level as opposed to the factory orange.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 0085BD96-45F4-411C-BDE8-3531904A08C5

Superstik installed. Sits higher than OEM and doesn’t have that satisfying “snap” when it’s fully seated. This is because it’s missing the little black ball that’s on the factory dipstick. It also sort of resembles a flower? Dunno, heh.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 11D23CFE-B4D8-476C-ACF4-0C0798F3D291

Very easy to read. Even at night with poor lighting. The venting feature worked nicely, exactly as described.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 2EE610EE-64EC-4D0C-8C70-BC89B70E595B

OEM for comparison, under good lighting. Difficult to see on that darned orange background.

Overall, I like the Superstik. Seems well made and does the job as advertised. Went with black, though there are (3) other colors to choose from: blue, red and gold.

Installed and tested it 10pm at night, and the oil level was really easy to see. Downside is it’s not as clean looking installed as OEM and it is pricey ($89 shipped) for just a dipstick. Under normal circumstances, I add 5.7 gallons on an oil change and call it a day, heh.

Final thoughts on the Superstik. DO NOT BUY. Leaks by under hard driving. Took a closer look in the daylight as that Si owner experiencing the fitment issue asked for a barrel measurement. It appears you can get pretty much the same thing by simply removing the plastic orange tip from the OEM dipstick, lol. I feel kinda dumb now (and $89 poorer) heh.
Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R F258F312-065E-419A-A11C-693EE1FF4AB1
Kicking myself now for not thinking of that before *bonk*

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 5D9BFC67-3AE7-4E2A-B0CB-51A9F3A142A8

Another angle of it installed. My buddy Boosted180sx suggests I put the stock on back on and use this only when I need a measurement, lol.
