Hello Tom, been trying to catch up on your journal. If you like the A052's, I would highly recommend you try out the Nakang CR1 tire. I heard they're as sticky but last much longer. I currently have them on my car and all I can say is wow. I feel super confident on track with these.
I was thinking of the Nankang CR1 but was recommended the Falcon RT660 because the can be rotated since the tread pattern is symetrical and will have similar performance at 200tw.

Hard to believe it’s been (7) months or so, since I’ve last wrenched on the car. Now that I’ve reached a comfortable stopping point with the arcade hobby…. It’s time to move forward on several mods that have been languishing on the shelf..

It’s been difficult getting psyched up to work on the car again. When I start something, the OCD kicks in, and it’s hard to step away until it’s complete.

My wife knows and will guilt trip saying I’d rather spend time with the car, than my family. That’s totally absurd? Right? :rolleyes:

Well… ok maybe not. Haha. :drive:

This round of mods will include:
  • Dream Automotive hard lagged turbo heat shield
  • Dream Automotive hard lagged water pipe
  • Updated Eventuri CF turbo inlet tube
  • Unit2Fab baffled oil pan
  • Oil temperature and pressure sensor install (will not connect until I’m able to purchase a Motec 125 dash display, like my buddy @turbociv910 is rocking)
  • XDI HPFP
+ brake pad change, fluid change, oil change, radiator flush.

First thing I wanted to try is the EZ Car Lift ground clearance kit… which are aluminum ramps the car that provide extra height to increase the starting leverage of the EZ Car Lift. Hopefully, the internal bolting won’t bend like it did previously. These will also be needed so the lift can slide underneath when the car is lowered in the future. There are stops at the top so the car doesn’t shoot past and fall off.

I’ll list the steps, but won’t go into full detail, as these have been covered in detail on previous posts. Removed the (3) APR CF cooling plates.

Removed the Eventuri intake and swung the top radiator bracket out of the way.

Removed the Eventuri CF inlet turbo tube and Radium CCV catch can tubing.

Pulled the Dream Automotive DP. Fortunately the bolting hardware came apart easily. No heating/cooling needed. The hard lagged insulation has held up well.

Turbo removal​

Remove these (2) bolts and support bracket from underneath the turbo. Believe these are 12mm and 14mm bolt heads. A ratchet extension or deep socket works well.​

Use a metal toothbrush to clean rust from the threads on the backside of the turbo housing where one bracket bolt penetrated… then spray with Kroil.​

The lower bracket bolt was a little stubborn, but got it out with a breaker bar and 14mm deep socket. Heat was not needed. :)

Kroil these (2) nuts securing the water lines to the turbo and remove using a 10mm combo or ratchet.​

Even with the radiator drained, there’s a good amount of fluid in the lines, so be ready to capture it or clamp off the rubber hoses. Recommend separating this before the oil or intercooler piping to avoid radiator fluid spilling into either. There is a gasket that will need to be replaced when it’s time to go back. Order these from hondapartsnow or the dealer parts department.​

Use pliers to compress and pull back the spring clip on the oil line.​

The other oil line comes off after this 10mm bolt head is removed. There is a o-ring that will need to be replaced when it’s time to reassemble.​

These (2) 12mm bolts securing the intercooler piping to the turbo need to be removed.​

Broke the bolts loose with a ratchet and extension from underneath the car. If have an oil cooler, Disconnect the cooler lines for more room to work.​

A deep socket was useful for backing the bolts out the rest of the way. Remember, do this step after the water lines. I did this first and radiator fluid spilled in and made more work as I had to clean it out. :doh:

There are (2) vacuum lines that need to be disconnected from the turbo’s cold side. Follow them and disconnect where convenient and accessible. I chose here. Use pliers to pull the spring clamp back and separate the hose.

The lower vacuum line was tougher. This looked like the best spot… but my hands are small and can fish in to reconnect when it’s time to go back.

Had to use a flat screwdriver to push the vacuum tubing free.

Breaker bar and 14mm deep socket worked perfect for the lower bolts.

Carefully push the water hoses aside and finesse the turbo off. Voila! Turbo removed :cool:

With the turbo pulled, had a galled stud machined out. The damage occurred during a previous DP installation. Will replace with a Rampage Ti stud.

Here is the Dream Automotive turbo heat shield install.

This is a good orientation for the task. Hot side of the turbo down. The linkage needs to be disconnected for the heat shield to fit.

Remove this retaining pin.

The linkage won’t come undone with just the pin removed, so use a 3mm Allen to remove the actuator screws. Note the position of the linkage and arm.

With the screws undone, the linkage can be wiggled loose. The waste gate arm drops, but that’s no big deal.

Lift the actuator out and note the position of the arm. Be careful because the arm can rotate freely and don’t want it to change position. Dunno if that matters or not, but knowing my luck, would rather not risk it. ;)

The top half of the heat shield slides in and is a perfect fit. There is a bolt hole to line up to keep it in place. The (2) bolts needed for this kit are not provided ?‍♂ . Will determine what they are and provide an update.

With the hard lagging in place, re-engage the linkage, insert the pin and secure the actuator screws. Make sure the electrical connector and linkage arm are pointing the right way. The actuator is a plastic type material so do not over tighten.

Thanks again for the great detail and pictures. I've been meaning to ask where do you buy your Dream parts? Thanks for sharing the hard-lagged options. That's the route I would have gone from the get go had I known.

As a side note, it's kind of cool to see the porous nature of the silicone material.

Thanks stariq812. Was a little perplexed on how to go about the install at first…but figured it out looking at diagrams at www.hondapartsnow.com

Unfortunately some of the seals and o-rings are unavailable so will be going back with the same, as they appear to be in good condition. Applying some O-ring lube for good measure. So wish me luck there are no leaks, otherwise I’ll be redoing some work ?


Kudos to you that's a lot of work, really interested in the temp diff.

With the electrical out of the way, here is a good look at what needs to come out to remove the water pipe. Please disregard that it’s already installed, haha.

Had to pull it back out when I realized I failed to transfer this rubber grommet and insert from the old to the new, until after the new pipe was in. In a perfect world, I’d have done a side by side comparison first, but a couple weeks had past from the time I removed and installed ?

The oil vacuum pump is secured by (3) bolts. Use a 12mm socket and extension to remove. Do not mess with the torx security bolts, as its not needed.

This step may be specific for the HKS BOV. Regardless, undo any hose that may be here to provide room to access bolts and pull the oil pump.

Carefully pull the oil vacuum pump and swing to the side. I like to place in a plastic bag to keep clean.

Be careful to not damage these O-rings, as some are not available for purchase. Notice the slot the pump impeller slides into. Make sure everything lines up when going back together.

Disconnect these hoses and remove these (3) bolts holding this pump spacer plate. They also require a 12mm socket.

Carefully pull the spacer off.

Believe the beige gunk is Honda bond. It was dry and I did not disturb it. Remove this electrical connector

The purpose for removing the oil vacuum pump and spacer plate is to reach these (3) bolts and (1) nut that hold the thermostat housing in place.

To properly reach it, could require removal of the battery and some more piping. Tried pulling the rubber hoses for clearance, then thought it might be impossible to get back on.

But I'm kind of lazy, so used a pry bar to lift the hose and create space to use a universal wobbulator socket and extension.

Which takes a bit of finesse and patience.

Strongly suggest backing the nut almost all the way out, but leaving it barely on. That might just be enough to pull the water pipe out. On the initial install I pulled the nut all the way off and it was a pain in the butt to get it to thread back on using the prybar, universal socket and extension, however it can be done. I stuffed a little bit of paper towel inside the socket to keep the nut from falling out while threading back on.
