Big thank you to @SCOPESYS  for the knowledge drop on how to determine the head unit serial number: https://www.civicx.com/forum/threads/radio-code-serial-how-to-find.35045/

and how use that along with your VIN to obtain the Anti-theft radio code:

https://radio-navicode.honda.com/

and to @[B]rwsmith123[/B] for sharing the link.

And kapow! One handy dandy elusive radio code. This definitely beats having to mess with the ECU when this happens. Thank you again SCOPESYS and rwsmith123

Connected with Salasko Racing to check out a few anomalies identified during my daily drives. Ben determined the burbles and pops I had misinterpreted as misfire, was traction control retarding ignition to limit wheel spin.

Cannot toggle auto rev match OFF in Motec’s latest software revision and my car occasionally wants to stall when decelerating hard, downshifting to 2nd while turning. Motec is aware of this bug and will fix in a future update. In meantime, Ben will eliminate the issue by adjusting some settings.

With a track day on the horizon, Ben recommended upgrading to Motec’s level 3 logging, so we did.

0A1D191E-F71C-4F63-901D-586442F4783D.png

Also committed to a Motec display unit and GPS upgrade. Ben says in addition to showing various read outs, he can program a variety of warnings which should be useful at the track.

Originally had been considering an AIM Solo 2 DL and Defi analog gauges. This display will take the place of those and offer additional features.
i need that in my life. :spaz:

Yes Taylor, for sure man. It’s great to have the code information now. Haven’t tried inputting it yet, but am sure it will work, when needed. ;)

Don’t have it yet, but one of the cool things about the Motec C125 display is Ben Salasko says it does not require sensors to be installed to read oil pressure, oil temperature or other data points. It will display what the Motec ECU is seeing. ?

Also by adding a GPS module, it can time laps and has tracks stored within to give functionality similar to an AIM SOLO. ;)

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R F6F49A01-8FBF-4C2A-A4D7-77191AFFF487

Did you know our Type R comes with a rear tow hook? I didn’t until today, when my track buddy Jay clued me to check this driver’s side panel in the hatch.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 5044BC49-DEFA-4915-B389-573F900BF74C

Inside is a funnel and a black pouch.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 14FE6E7E-8E5C-4212-8F39-F998343ACF49
The pouch contains a rear tow hook and metal rod to tighten it.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R B214BC68-319D-480D-AFBA-7436DEBBE676

This plastic panel on the driver’s side rear has a slot for a flat screwdriver here.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 55BB7D73-D95F-48F6-9A19-F6828A514476

Which allows it to easily pry off, giving access to this reinforced threaded hole.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R F118B5EC-A7E2-4EDB-9A70-20ECCFA44C85

Spin on the tow hook then tighten by inserting the metal rod through the eyelet and cinching down.

Thanks so much for this info. Wonder if there are any other hidden gems in the car. It would make sense to put the tow hook in place before any track event. Nice to have the funnel as well.

Umm... I'd love to know how the ECU is determining oil temp without an input. Can you get an explanation on that? Cause I believe you are being lead astray...

I believe the ECU reads OilT via CAN bus, per @Lust. Don't know where the sensor is. Maybe it's being derived from OilP which may be how the 2020+ get it through LogR.

Unfortunately it doesn’t read OilT. It does however read OilP. The AIM Solo 2 DL uses the FK2 profile and that data stream is erroneous. I found that it was actually reading fuel temp instead of OilT

Hmm thank you for that. Sounds like I’ll have to install a sensor for oil temperature after all then. Would prefer to run it to the HKS oil cooler sandwich plate, though have read it’s more accurate direct to the oil pan.

Hoping to avoid that as don’t want to sacrifice the convenience of the Fumoto drain valve, ?.

Well at least I won’t have to run an oil pressure sensor, so that’s a plus. ;)

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 50870AC8-3DD6-42CC-BBDA-FF078A10A90E

Completed a fun track day at Big Willow Sunday 2/21/21 with the Alfa Romeo Club of Southern California. They run a nice relaxed event. Red was my previous speed on sections of the track vs Blue yesterday.

Consider it successful because:
  • Set a PB of 1:34.503 shaving 4.29 seconds off my previous best of 1:38.793
  • Motec tune held up no issues. Could definitely feel the WOT difference from stock. Top speed down the main straight reached 136 mph. Had trouble getting to 120 before. :headbang:
  • Cooling was no issue as temps never moved off normal, despite the increase in power. That said, Big Willow is a fast track with plenty of high speed runs and temps were cool reaching a high of just 61F. Investment in cooling mods seems to be worth the $$$.
  • Gyrodisc rotors and SS pads held up great and the stopping power inspired me to hold speed longer and use the brakes later and harder. Imagine their track pad stopping power would be insane, though would wear the rotors much faster.
  • A052 tires survived a 2nd outing without getting chorded. Grip was amazing but became abit greasy towards the end of the 2nd session and remainder. The track alignment and slight negative camber helped the car maintain speed in the turns and boosted confidence to push the car faster.
  • Didn’t go off track this time ?
My buddy and fellow CW type R owner Jay shot THIS VIDEO of me overtaking a Miata (after a delayed point by), coming around turn 8 and 9, then punching it down the main straight. Can hear the HKS BOV at the 0:48 mark. ?

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R FD97D9A4-B01B-4EC3-BED8-5DA22DB7834F

Was hanging tough with my friend Steve’s 650HP 2019 Corvette and Mario’s 2017 Acura NSX in the advanced group. Never lost sight of them.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 3B85EEA2-7C10-429B-80AF-116BEC9780BA
Despite a 300+ HP disadvantage, being lighter, gained ground on turns and by holding speed longer before braking. My buddy Steve dropped his time to 1:32 during session (3). My times degraded as the tires wore out. I think A052’s are only good for (2) track days plus some daily driving.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R C99ACBE0-AB1E-4475-B4F7-25428A434051

Had fun chasing Mario’s 2017 NSX. Passed him once then he overtook me. Check out that bitchin wing. The car has maybe 1” of ground clearance. Wish I had taken pix of the front. Next time. ;)

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 4E6DEE1A-52A3-4A6C-BA32-21054E1B36AE

Both Steve and Mario were elevated to group L due to their weight and power level which left me as the top dog in group M.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 36117724-59D6-424D-AA4F-9E90D0142BC1

And was given a medal for group M at the end of the day. ?

Got lucky though. Didn’t know for time trial, only laps during the final session count. The (3) previous go arounds were just warmup. By the end of the day most cars had left and I won with a pedestrian 1:39 ?

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 7BFCDFC6-D58C-4083-A754-F21C7AF9B2DB
Stopped for gas before heading home and as luck would have it, an Alpine Stars truck pulled in on the other side of the gas pump. Showed the driver I was rocking their driving gloves and the dude gifted me some swag in the form of an Alpine Stars baseball cap then took a pic of me in front of the truck. ?

All in all, was a really fun outing. Looking forward to going again. Feel like my driver mod is improving and would like to attack Big Willow in the near future with a fresh set of tires.
