Yes, Monday, I am going to follow up with the 2-3 dealers that have quoted me., and go with that.

I'm in a "gray area" zone on the trade... Car is in the body shop due to an accident, waiting to get it next week, and driving over to trade it in before it shows up on Carfax (not that a car dealer would be any more honest to a buyer, so no guilt here), and they can determine / guess how much damage the "parking lot fender bender" is without the Carfax tool...

The other.. on a side note,... issue I have is I have to drop the car off to remove the after market speakers and amp, and drop the factory ones back in... Hopefully, if it works, the way I '"envision" is get a deal done at the dealer, and bring the car back once stereo shops does the swap. I am afraid to get that done before and then be unable to get a deal done,....

I say make sure you have a firm OTD price because spending all day outside at a dealership is, not the best thing in the world right now. I don't like to waste time outside when I don't have to, given the extraordinary times we live in...

That's a lot of moving pieces to juggle for the car deal. Any which way, Good Luck and check back if you decide that the deal is fair and you get the car you want.
If you negotiate the deal and ask to put down a deposit, they may hold onto the car and the terms you've negotiated, but that's up to the dealership I imagine. Showing you are truly interested in the car and willing to put down money should be enough to convince them that you're not wasting yours, or their time...

Crossing my finger, AND knocking on wood that Iā€™ll be able to grab a 2020 later this month... what are Southern California people paying OTD for sedans? What are these prices including? Warranties, extras?

Yeah exactly. What I might do is take it to carmax and see how much theyā€™ll give me for it. If I like it then Iā€™ll feel more comfortable having the speakers / amps taken out. Embarrassing to say I went through that last year, was going to but a Jeep GC Summit site unseen (just online at a jeep dealer), had the ā€œamps / speakersā€ taken out.. when i got there the jeep wasnā€™t as they presented it ughhj, went back to the stereo shop and paid to out it back in lol (too old and no time nowadays to do it myself).

I went through twice, both times were no good...
First time, I was quoted by a Costco dealer and another dealer who wanted my business more came back far lower than what the 'Costco' dealer quoted me over the internet.
Second time, (Honda) I went in and they quoted me something stupid, I asked to see their Costco Deal Pricing Sheet and they:
1) Refused to show me. I asked, "Hey this is a Costco thing and they told me to ask for the sheet..." Sales person said okay, went to his manager and came back empty handed with a response, and I quote, "Oh, they're not making the SI anymore" where I told him back, "Yeah, for 2021 there's no more SI but they're coming back with a 2022" and he was flabbergasted.
2) I insisted to see the "Costco dealer price" and he went back to his manager and came back and said, oh, "There's no Costco deal for the SI".
3) This was after I contacted Costco, and the "Costco trained specialist" contacted me and I quote, "You'll be thrilled by the aggressiveness of current deal"... Blah blah...
Long story short, it was a classic bait and switch, they claimed they didn't have a Costco deal on the SI even though Costco told me to go to them...

I hope others have had a good experience with Costco Auto Buy program, but in my 2 attempts of using it, it's garbage. Contacting the dealerships, asking for a price and seeing who will beat the other quotes is the best way of buying a car, hands down.

Avoid going to the dealership and haggling price, get the best price, see who wants your business and go out and get er'.

Thanks,

Thanks,
thanks for the input.

I filled out the online info just to see what Iā€™d get out of that, and I had someone call me within like 2 minutes asking if I wanted to set up an appointment. Dealership is about an hour and a half away from me, I donā€™t mind traveling for a good deal. I told them I canā€™t make a move on a purchase until a couple weeks from now, and if they could let me know the price theyā€™d be offering, said theyā€™d need me to be there in person to show them my Costco card...

I donā€™t really want to drive all around Southern California wasting time looking for a deal... but I donā€™t mind diving an hour or so + if it will save me a significant amount of money

Indeed, they won't give you "Costco pricing" over the internet, they say you need to be there in person.
I would contact them first and confirm that they actually have "Costco" pricing in hand before driving 1.5 hours, as in my case, they didn't have it in hand, or I suspect, in my case, they had some hanky-panky business going on, where they didn't want to show me the actual pricing, bait and switch scam....

Call them and confirm they're actually looking at the "Special pricing sheet", and if they say they have special pricing for you, it may be worth the drive. Otherwise, they're not playing by the Costco Auto Buy rules and are yanking your chain like they did with me...

I contacted Costco and am waiting back from them. I want to know if I overpaid or not, as they gave me a "Confirmation number" to go and see the dealer.
Once I can confirm Costco Auto Buy program is legit, I will get back to this post and let you know.

I appreciate that.

the girl that called said that Iā€™d have to come in and talk with the manager that deals with the Costco program, so Iā€™m hoping/assuming itā€™s legit. Like I said, Iā€™m not quite ready to make a deal, and donā€™t have any leverage to negotiate a deal that canā€™t happen at the moment, so Iā€™ll hold off until Iā€™m ready. Iā€™m looking forward to see how your deal pans out, hopefully you got the deal that you were supposed to get.

I did purchase an SI.
I came in, and they put a paper in front of me which was $2000 more than all the other dealerships offered me. And I was insulted, "This is the best deal you have? I thought this was the Costco deal you insisted I had to come in for, in-person to see..." I insisted to see the "Costco member-only pricing sheet"... The sales person looked at me and said, "Okay". He walked over to the manager and came back a minute later and said, "Oh, so they're not making the SI anymore", where I said, "Yeah I know, for 2021. There's a new one in 2022"...

Long story short, they didn't have a "Costco member special pricing" for the SI, and I got an apology email from the "Costco specialist" saying along the lines, "They don't make the SI anymore, I'm sorry the SI isn't apart of the Costco special pricing program" blah blah....

Long story short, don't trust the dealership or Costco, don't waste your time going to dealerships, ask the 5 dealerships around you for the best OTD price, ask the others if they want to beat it. If not, you have the best price. Going out and wasting a few hours haggling over $200 dollars is not worth it, given the circumstances.

Thanks for all of this... at the moment, the Costco affiliated dealership has only 2 colors, both of which arenā€™t at the top of my list. Probably better I donā€™t go there. Iā€™ll probably just hit the closest dealership, and not waste that time... if I donā€™t feel like Iā€™m getting a good deal, there are a few (higher volume) dealerships the other way, about an hour or so away that Iā€™m sure I can get a good (at least decent) deal with. Iā€™ll probably call a few before I waste too much time as well.

Here is their email response:

Good afternoon Scott,

I apologize. That was my fault. I was unaware that Costco pricing was not available on the Civic Si due to the fact they stopped making them and there is a limited number available. Same with the Type R.

Please let me know if and when you want to move forward.

At your service,

XXYYZZ

Keep in mind, this was after they insisted that I had to drive to the dealership to see their "special pricing"

Disappointing. I wonā€™t be wasting my time, unless my deal falls through, and I wonā€™t be in the market for the si.
