Has anyone found a set of vents/louvers to add to the existing Type R hood?
[The Redline thread that mentions them is dead...]
I'd rather risk adding a few to the existing one before dropping $1500+ on a full aftermarket since either way I'm tossing a hood...
Thanks

I did end up tracking those down and did some research.
If you look where those go on the outside and then go and look under the hood for placement it looks like nothing short of a total nightmare for getting cut out and install just right.
A ton of bracing and support material.
I asked them for some under hood shots and oddly enough they didn't have any...
Funny thing is if you look under the hood towards the center line closer to the scoop there are what appear to be two factory cut out areas just waiting to be opened up.
Complete with what appear to be mounting dimples for hardware of some kind.
I'll try to grab a picture.

Yeah having added some louvers very, very similar to those on my Miata I can tell you it ain't an easy thing to do.

Well, if any car ever needed a "heat extractor" I guess it would be the R.
I am totally baffled as to why no company is making vents that match what appear to me to be factory cut-outs?
I'm thinking about making them myself!
You have a nice clear - obstruction free area to cut out and then with those dimples you could use pop-rivets from above and have a very clean install with ABSOLUTELY NO LOSS of bracing/support.
Almost looks, well, easy...

If your looking for style points and car show points...its not pretty. but ill try to get some
No, just looking for a way to give some of that under-the-hood heat a place to go.
I did something similar to my Miata and I'm curious how much bracing/support material you have to cut through/remove to get it in place.
And any tips or suggestions are welcome.

They give you a template and instructions on where to line up the center vent. this only applied to the 'top sheet' of the hood. it sits half an inch from the bottom of the hood scoop.

For the bottom sheet i cut a pilot hole with a sawzall and just traced the top sheet if that make sense. there is no template for the bottom so its up to you how much material you remove.

Word of caution though: when cutting the bottom sheet watch out for the part that sits flush with the oem intake gasket.

We have some vents sets being cut right now, our own design. We 3D scanned the hood top and bottom to fit the vents perfectly, and used CAD airflow data for design. Ours are primarily designed for true track enthusiasts and have a panel that replaces the stock scoop, as well as 3 other panels to properly open as much of the hood as possible. They will be $295 a set in a raw aluminum and will include support strips for the 3 larger vents to stiffen them, on the underside, as well as hardware to mount the scoop replacement panel. The other 3 can be attached with small bolts, rivets, etc, your choice. Attached are some pics of the full design as they lay out on the hood as well as some of our hood with the scoop replacement. We are making 4 sets initially.
