Spy photos of the production prototypes of the 2016 Civic coupe and sedan models.

Key elements of the radical tail-light design found on the concept can be seen on the Civic sedan prototypes. The angular outer tail-lights jut out nearly identically on the concept and the sedan prototypes. It's easy to imagine the design carrying through beneath the camouflage, as the shapes are very consistent on their trunks.

While the Civic coupe prototype is largely covered, the fastback shape suggested beneath looks consistent with the concept. Beneath the prototype's car cover, we see a front overhang, hood line, and a rounded front wheel arch that look very similar to the coupe concept's design details.

While the concept gives us a very good look at what's in store for the Civic coupe, our prototype sedan shots help to give us a feel for how the show car's design will be translated into the new, swoopy four-door form.

I was really hoping the production version would do something about those lights. But it looks like we're getting it only slightly modified. As long as the lights dont jut out like on the concept it could look okay.

Overhangs on the sedan are huge. Looks like the tail lights are basically the same as the concept ones. YESSS!

It could just be all that padding and foam that they add. I hope those are not the real overhangs. Side profile makes it look huge.

Disagree. They should keep them just like they are on the concept. That's the most unique thing about it! The rest of the rear they should tone down but the lights can be the signature look of the 10th gen Civic.

The concept is creating so much buzz because Honda's been nerfing their stuff for years now and finally they come out with something edgey and taking design risks. Can't tell those types of details yet form the prototypes but really hope that the edginess you see in the concept gets brought over to the production models. Would be a shame to go back to bland ole civics again.

The coupe prototype has similar wheels to the Civic Concept. Good sign of them sticking to the concept design hopefully.

Agreed. I've been afraid it's like the Scion iM, showing it with an aggressive body kit and big wheels and when the production version comes out it's just vanilla. Let's hope the same doesnt happen with Civic X.

Production cars will always be toned down but look at Guzmannn's post. The production Type-R is still plenty aggressive even compared to the concept version. I think we'll see the same transition for the coupe model. And if not, the aftermarket will be sure to copy that concept look.

Aftermarket is endless for these cars but it will be the stock look that gets all the praise (or criticism) and brings people to the showrooms (or doesn't).

Rear overhangs look real to me. The lights are showing so that means there can't really be much fake padding back there. Good thing I'm not interested in the sedan hah. It's hatchback or maybe even the coupe for me if it's a liftback.

Yea looks will matter more than performance even. That's what really sells a car in big numbers. Performance matters more to enthusiasts but looks and value matter more to the general public.

Sedans are boring.

But that coupe prototype looks really long too? Not as tightly shaped as the concept especially the overhangs.
