Can you remove the trim pieces without taking the steering wheel off the hub?
I’m sure you could but it would be an absolute pain in the ass and I’m positive you would break some stuff.

1. Remove the negative terminal from your battery.

2. You’ll need a T30 torx screwdriver, an m10 Allen key, a Phillips head and flathead screwdrivers.

3. On each side of the steering column, you’ll find 1 torx bolt that need to be removed.

4. Now that the bolts are removed, the airbag console can be accessed. Make sure you don’t pull it too far out as the wires are still connected to the airbag. You just need to pull it out enough to access the connectors.

5. There are three connectors on the back of the airbag: green, grey, ground. The green and grey are removed by pulling the white tabs up. I’ve circled them for reference. The ground wire may need a flathead screwdriver to provide leverage to remove as it was somewhat difficult to fit my fingers in there.

6. Once these three connectors are disconnected, pull the airbag out and set aside

7. Place your m10 Allen key in the center bolt and remove. It will feel very hard to remove because of the loctite but keep in mind it’s just a long bolt and takes some time to remove (3 min).

8. You also want to remove the plug in connector that is directly above the center bolt (pink, black, and blue wires) It has a tab on the bottom.

9. Mark the nurling on the wheel and hub so you can easily match up the position again and have a straight centered steering wheel at the end of install.

10. Gently push on both sides of the steering wheel back and forth and the wheel will come loose off the hub.

11. Once the wheel is off, then starts the task of removing all the trim pieces. I didn’t take pictures of each step as they are pretty straight forward. All I can say is tread carefully because you can easily break the trim pieces if you try to rush or don’t pay attention to detail. The key is to wedge a plastic trim removal tool or a flathead wrapped in paper towel and carefully work your way around the trim pieces/oem button consoles.

12. There are two connectors that connect the wheel mounted buttons. These have tabs in the middle and are removed before removing the buttons.

13. Install trim pieces on new wheel and reverse the steps to reinstall the wheel.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!
Thanks for write up as it helped me a lot with my install. Just one feedback in removing the trim pieces with the controls on the left and right side. Just push through the flat pin from the back of the steering wheel and the entire piece comes out. No working around the trim. Did it a few times as I was adjusting the trim to my new steering wheel that is much thicker including the leather. Hope this helps others too.

So silly question... if I did this could this possibly fix a crooked steering wheel? After having an alignment done and the dealership telling me the steering wheel column cover is lopsided, while driving straight the steering wheel looks to be steering to the left a few degrees....

Yes if you mark both knurlings with a sharpie, you should be able to line up the knurling on the spindle of the car with the knurling on the steering wheel. Adjust the line up accordingly to what direction your steering wheel is offset.

I had the same issue with my MDX and Odyssey....Toe adjustment did the trick after alignment....funny thing is the dealer couldn't correct it and had a tire shop look into it...showed me the steps while they were doing it.

Hmmm... perhaps I’ll talk to my local tire place about this before I attempt to remove the steering wheel.

So I took my CTR to a designated tire place and told them about my steering wheel being off center to the left and they put it on their alignment machine and found the front end need adjusting even though Honda did a “4 wheel alignment” last week. Steering wheel is now centered. The manager today printed off the before and after of their alignment. I’m definitely going to to my dealership and gonna complain and hopefully get my money back. I attached a pic of the findings the tire place got today before making adjustments.

Like you it need a toe adjustment.

@98-0425 Is the Buddy Club logo on the bottom a decal or painted on? I love the wheel, especially for the price, but don't want the logo.

How does the BC Wheel compare to the OEM? Is it thicker all the way around? What did you think of having a flat bottom? Thanks!!!
