I still think there is room in the ACURA line for a 2.0T powered hatchback that comes with 6MT or some automatic with SH-AWD. I believe this would be similar to the Mercedes AMG hatchback that could start around 42 and top out close to 60-similar to how the Audi line stretches out.

Such a thing wouldn't sell. People don't shop for Acuras the way people shop for Audis and Mercedes.

That’s actually the only way I would buy an R, otherwise happy with my Si!

No way! No need for awd here in FL. No hills and mountains or snow. I would rather keep the weight down.

This is not really true. The current FWD Type R has nearly identical fuel milage to a Golf R. Subaru's fleet of AWD cars are not guzzlers. Adding a driveshaft and rear differential can be done without adding a lot of weight.
The Type R, being built to a price point, definitely will have compromises. Specifically in the case of gas mileage, it will be in the area of tuning, design refinement, and materials.

Case in point, the 2019 911 Carrera weighs the same, has 370 hp, gets 22/30mpg vs. the CTR's 22/28. A Carrera 4S makes 420hp in the standard configuration, weighs 3300 lbs, and gets 21/28 mpg. Fine, they're not the same size. But the 340i weights 3600 pounds, makes 320hp, and gets 21/32mpg.

What really takes the cake is the Audi S5 Sportback (a larger fatter twin to the CTR). With a full tank, it weighs a whopping 4000 lbs, makes 354hp, and gets 21/30mpg with AWD.

There is a lot more that contributes to MPG than just weight and power numbers. Gearing, aero, drag etc. just looking at those two figures doesn’t paint a good picture.

Porsche throws in a 7th and 8th gear on cars for killer highway MPG numbers

I'm not sure about a hatchback, but I know plenty of people that would buy an ILX Type S if it came with the CTR 2.0T but only if it included the 6MT. If it had the SH-AWD it would be more suited to the Acura badge IMO. I think the CTR is more pure being a FWD and I also wouldn't want the extra weight. SH-AWD in a Type S? Sure. Type R? I'll pass.

Hence the 2nd sentence of my post. And gearing alone won't explain the phenomenal gas mileage out of a 4000 lb car. The refinement does.

No.

The R is a heritage car, it's a hopped up Civic. If you add AWD, it's trying to be something that it's not.

I have a rwd and a fwd so i been itching to add an awd to my collection. If they did a 2.0t ILX Type S w/ AWD, i'd trade my '16 ILX in a heartbeat lol.

As long as it's not a CTR, I'm good lol
