AMP TUNING:
RF sends a tuning CD in the amp package, but CTRs do not have CD players obviously. Instead, go to this link for the tuning instructions and download the zip file in the format you'd like. Unzip and choose the "40 Hz @ 0 db" file to add to your smartphone or a USB stick to play in the HU following the tuning steps.

Thanks so much for this! I've been wanting to upgrade the stock sub but knew it needed an outboard amp, and wasn't ready to dive in without step-by-step instructions. This is exactly what I needed.

Thanks for the write-up & how to photo album. Just what I needed to motivate me to up grade the sound system. I love to hear a great stereo in the car since that is my main pleasure while driving this amazing machine. I have replaced the foam insert with a oem spare, have any ideas where I could put the amp instead?

Thank you so much for doing this! I’m about to tackle this this week but I will be installing a JL Microsub+!

Does the trunk still rattle? Or all that foam installed eliminated it? Trying to see if I may need to dynamat the trunk bottom.

Couple suggestions would be the side corner flat areas depending on size of your amp. I test fitted my RF amp which is compact and fits well either side. You could also mount it on either wheel jump off the floor if you’d like.

Also, behind the sub enclosure itself is a good spot on the sheet metal. There’s plenty of space behind it and reinstall the enclosure in front of it to completely hide the amp.

One thing to note, pull the 8 gauge wire the reverse direction vs what I did. Pull the wire hanger from the fender side not from the interior side. Reason being it will pull the grommet out of place and is a bitch to put back into the hole if you pull from inside the car.

my trunk didn't have any rattles before whatsoever but wanted to be sure with the new sub. yes the foam definitely helped and still no rattles. from the outside hardly hear the low frequencies even.

sound deadening definitely will help prevent rattles. i plan to go back in the near future to line entire trunk with soundskins pro and tighten everything up even more and to reduce road noise...especially given the trunk does not have a full hard cover.

here's the relative size of the rf amp just so you can get a feel.

^ Are your hands more Trump or Rubio sized?

On a more serious note: Thank you for posting this! I might consider doing this in the future. The factory system really sounds subpar to me. Any idea how much total weight this added to the car?

mine are rubio ;-) exact dimensions of amp are: 8-5/8"W x 1-5/8"H x 4-5/16"D

just 3 pounds added from the amp...that's it! the pioneer sub weighed about same as stock one based on feel in my hands holding both. overall it's insignificant ;-)

you can do this from the cabin side too...just gut a bic pen and turn it into a "straw" with a pointy side...then poke the pointy "straw' thru the grommet, then feed the 8ga cable thru the center of the straw, and lastly, pull both (straw and cable) out from the fender end.
