I had some free time to tinker with my sport hatch. Had an old AEM dryflow filter laying around and since I wasn't ready to shell more than $100 for an air intake system, I planned to hack the maf housing/intake top cover to accommodate the cone filter. I ordered the top cover part# 17210-5AA-A00 for under $17 at hondapartsnetwork.com picked up for free.

Hacked it with my Dremel just leaving enough space for the filter to securely attach to the maf housing.

I also left one of the top bolt for support attachment.

Also rotated the "accordion" hose so it's aligned straight.

Let me know what you guys think. Cost is $17 for the top cover, filter is free (probably $40-50 new).

Dude! I literally have been thinking about doing something exactly like this!! Either this, or modifying the bottom part of the airbox with tubing that runs down to draw air from the fender. Not sure which yet, but still... Very cool to see this actually done, since it's been bouncing around in my head for like a week.

Do you have any video of how it sound?

Holy crap that's so much more
You can always use the one that came with your car :dunno: unless you're planning on putting it back to stock.

Yeah, the ability to go fully back to stock if wanted/needed is what's kept me from doing this.

I guess I could hit up the classifieds on here and see if anyone who's switched to an aftermarket setup wants to sell theirs, haha.

Cheaper than any SRI. Add a $20 Cone filter and you've got a noisemaker.

Just passing some savings to the civicx community

It's still pretty chilly here in IL, I would assume heatsoak will be the same as the other short ram intakes. Maybe fabricating an aluminum box/shield would help? Possibly an intecooler upgrade?

You could use something like this to locate the filter in the fender: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BPZ55Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What's better than a cheap homemade SRI? A cheap, homemade CAI! :)

I have that actual tube showing up tomorrow, as well as an adapter bracket thing (https://www.amazon.com/Spectre-Perf...rd_wg=9ShcA&psc=1&refRID=6ETE7D6J5M2PAD6Q3WX8).

Yesterday I closed off the stock intake path to the airbox, and drilled a 3" hole in the bottom. I'm going to mount the adapter to the airbox, then run the tube down into the fender well. This is in addition to having a K&N drop in filter already in place. I'll let you know how the quality of that tubing is.

Ahahaha! You got that right! That'll be another project for next time :headbang:
I just did the UK mod/gundo bypass on another sport exhaust I found on OfferUp. With this intake and that mod, I can hear the car much better...could barely hear the car running before.
