Been lurking on this forum since July, have an si with about 4500 miles on it, stock, running premium gas. I’ve been getting an occasional extended crank on cold starts after it sits overnight or 8-9 hours it seems. It’s done it 4 times so far, I haven’t read anyone else having this issue on here but a friend has the same car with about 10k miles and has had a similar issue as well. Anyone else have this problem?

Howdy,

This is to be expected. Not an issue or problem as far as I can tell. I'm sure they will stay extended as we dip into the colder months.

I've had it too. Cranks about 10 seconds. Does it about once a month.

How long are we talking here? Mine fires up pretty fast.

You could run a compression test on each cylinder to see if everything is ok.

I've seen this as well with multiple Honda's. just something they do from time to time (VERY infrequent though)

my question is when I've seen this its been with a Honda with a physical key to keep cranking on. How does it work with the push button - does it keep cranking by itself for until it starts?

Also curious because its a bit more common when its ULTRA cold (below zero)

mine has done it once or twice in the last 3k miles. scared me the first time. just hoping it doesn't leave me stranded somewhere, but all has been good so far.

It keeps cranking until it fires.

How cold was it, Spacesloth? I don't recall my Fit ever doing that, but it rarely gets below 20 here in NC. Coldest morning my Si has seen was 39.

The other day mine took what sound like an additional half-second to start. Nothing unusual as it was colder outside. This is due primarily to how car batteries are rated on cold-cranking amps.

It has happened in the 40s and once in the lower 70s, I managed to get it on video twice.

That is a bit on the excessive and concerning side if it were my car. Worst I have ever had with any car is max 5-6 seconds and that was a rare case. My 98 EX sat in the garage without moving for around 3 weeks and didn't take 10 seconds to crank.

Finally happened to me this morning as well, but didn’t seem that cold though (60-70s)?

Just happened to me as well . The car took maybe 5-6 seconds to crank. Odd, first time for me. I've noticed that if I start the car again shortly after its been running, like when I go to drop off a movie, it takes maybe a second to crank.

This happened to me after work today. Was about 60 degrees and took about 5 or 6 seconds to fire. Caught me off guard. Only 1,500 miles.
