We're delighted to announce that we'll be unveiling our Civic Hatchback Prototype at the 86th annual Geneva International Motor Show - stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the big reveal.- copied from the Honda UK Facebook wall.

Admin Edit:

The all new Civic Hatchback will make its return to the North American market for this generation. The hatchback style has previously only been spied on the Civic Type R Prototype while testing at the Nurburgring.

Update 1: Brightened version to show the details lurking in the shadows :)

Okay if this a real reveal pic, im very excited and fearful that the crosstour is making its way back but worse. I loved the shape, but it wasnt executed well. This has me really hype to see the full body.

Can anyone see the similarity of flow between the new pic and the old rendering?

I think it will really hinge on how that rear glass is executed...hoping it's fairly vertical.

Ironic considering the Civic isn't and won't be sold in Japan. Shame that it stopped selling altogether in its home market.

This prototype looks so aggressive even in the dark like that. Hope it keeps the center exhaust, roof spoiler, and some of that fancy bodywork. Please don't hide the exhaust!

So if this is a prototype, are we 8-12 months before a launch?

I would think in that range. I'm trying to remember back to the debut of the 2016 Type R, and how long between concept and debut that was...
At least this time, they've already got the power plant sorted out (probably?), so moving production to the body could be less this time around. Then again, it is moving from Fit platform to Civic platform... ahhhgh I don't know.

Looks like it has the addon body kit molded in.. I kinda like it. But wish Honda would get rid of the 2pc hood.

Here is a coupe walk around video.. enjoy

Reminds me of liftbacks like the first gen Mazda6 hatchback or Crosstour

Info from Motor Authority indicates the hatchback will be available early 2017 for Europe and the US version will be available shortly after. They also mention that this will be the platform for the US-spec R, based on previous spy shots.

Rumors will continue to fly...
Interesting find! I wonder though... up to this point we've been told US would get the new hatch first based on the fact that the 2016 Civic Hatch in EU just came out... I seem to remember seeing something saying they'd be made side by side for a while. Oh well whatever. At least information is starting to drip out!

This would make a great Si. I like it better than the sedan.

My guess is the hatchback will be available in the US in the beginning of 2017, the Civic SI in spring 2017, with the Type R following late summer/early fall 2017??
