To be honest, it's hard not to be skeptical of this. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but it's hard to believe.

What's hard to believe? He's got the 6MT LX with the narrow(er) tires. If the miles are mostly road miles, I would be surprised and disappointed to see worse FE than this with the 6MT LX.

If I ran 65mph on the highway I could probably get close to that with my Sport. Going 80mph I got 46mpg for an 80 mile stretch, then it went down to 43mph after the next 80 miles which was more hills and wind.

If it's pure highway under 70 MPH on highways with enough traffic to draft? Easy to do with self-control.

Yup, hell with my 8th gen I got 49.6mpg for 200 miles by going 65mph and drafting about 60% of the time off a big rig.

Not that hard to believe. I regularly get 45-46mpg with cruise control on at 70mph on my 60 mile drive to see my in-laws.

On a 50mph back country road, I can hit 50mpg easy.

very easy to get with steady, non-city driving. I'm averaging low 50s mpg on my commutes

This was maybe 1/3 highway, 1/3 city (not real city, but stop and go, lights etc.), and 1/3 back roads cruising between 40-50mph.

Oh, and it was also the first 996 miles on the car too. I was conservative though with the break-in period and all.

Since then I have been pushing it harder, a lot more city-ish stop and go, shorter trips etc. and I'm getting like 47 still...

I average about 41-42 right now with my current driving. Routinely drops to 33-35 during winter.

I've been getting 43 MPG or so in my 2017 ST Hatch with CVT. If I was all hwy mile, I bet I'd be up around 50.

Jesus christ!

My old car went from like 23 highway to 21 highway in the winter. 41 to 33 is a huge drop.

For what it's worth, my commute is 50/50 highway and low-traffic driving. Maybe half a dozen lights along the way.

Engine is so efficient it takes forever to warm up...
