For short trips (90% of my driving to work/home/shopping), I use Bluetooth. It's just a convenience thing.
For longer trips, I use Android Auto. It keeps my phone charged, and I usually end up using Google Maps.

I've got my entire music collection stored on my phone in FLAC format, and out of convenience I'm usually just running it thru the car's Bluetooth via Poweramp. I have had mediocre success with Android Auto - for some reason it will stay connected for 30 seconds to 1 minute and then it will disconnect and I will get a message on the screen saying the connection was lost. Not sure if it's just the USB cable or if I'm doing something wrong.

Mostly Sirius radio for music, but I use Audible and PocketCast through Android Auto all the time. Sometimes I'll use Google Play Music for a radio station, but I hate ads. Google Play Music actually is great for playing music off your phones storage too.

USB for my music 95% of the time. On longer drives (or when listening to music where one song flows into another (think concept albums), I use my 10 year old ipod (80 gb). Unlike my USB stick, the ipod never stalls and it's easier to navigate to different artists of the alphabet. But I use the flash drive more because it's one less thing I have to take with me.

Which makes me ask why the software for the flash drive couldn't be identical to the one for the ipod. When using the ipod, I can choose a letter of the alphabet and quickly go to that band/artist. With the flash drive I can only scroll while driving (and it won't let me "jump scroll" unless the vehicle is stopped). The only fix I found is to use the voice prompt if I want to jump to an artist far down the list.

On a side note, I like how with android auto, it will use downloaded music rather than going out

Should of made a poll with this thread.
Anyways I use Android Auto 98% and Bluetooth when I need to listen outside of Google play or Android Auto is acting up and won't work

I just use the mini cable to connect the stock stereo on my 08 civic & mustang. I love the mini cable as it just keeps things simple and reliable. On the garbage stereo on my mitsubishi, there is no mini cable. Just a bad usb and terrible stock interface, so i dont listen to music at all when I drive that.

As a source, i'll switch between my smartphone lg v20, or my mp3 player ibasso dx80 (when I forget to bring it out). I just use my own mp3 and flac music files and shuffle them. Im too cheap to upgrade stock stereo otherwise.

I hope android works well with the android play on the factory civic stereo. It saddens me that there seems to be no mini cable outlet, or as far as Ive read anyways.

I usually listen to music with my ears?... I mean...

No but seriously, its a mix between Sirius for shorter drives, occasionally USB if I get bored, and Android Auto/Google Play Music, Spotify, Pandora, or TuneIn for longer drives.

With the All Access thingy and being able to now yell 'OK GOOGLE' in Android Auto, Google Play Music is my favorite overall. Great sound quality, too.

~75% Google music app through android auto

~25% FM radio

I'm planning on experimenting with other apps once my verizon unlimited data plan kicks in and I can actually use streaming apps. I imagine Pandora will be my new default player. Does anyone know if you can create stations using an OK Google voice command?
