Hey all - I wanted to create this thread of track my experience and progress with my Civic Type R.

Before I picked up the R, I got my previous hatch appraised and was surprised with how much I was able to get for it. With chip shortages, logistical issues with the pandemic, and the Swindon factory shutting down this summer, it was now or never to try to get the car I’ve lusted after since the day it came out.

The day I sold the hatch, I started the quest to find a Type R for MSRP. I emailed dealers all along the east coast and most of them came back with 5-10K ADM, which was frustrating. One dealer even came back at 20K ADM, which was absolutely insane for a regular Type R.

I ended up finding one relatively local and ended up paying a little over MSRP. Not the smartest financial decision on my part, but I was fortunate enough to be in a situation where I could afford it so I took the plunge. I haven’t driven manual since my Fiesta ST (that I sold almost 5 years ago) so I was definitely rusty driving it home for the first time, but man - with my limited ownership of manual cars, I was really impressed with how smooth and neat the clutch and shifter felt. I tried to vary the RPMs as much as I could to help break in as well.

Anyway, I could ramble on for ages but thanks for stopping by and reading. Here’s some pictures from the day I picked her up! I honestly still can’t believe it sometimes... o_O

Didn’t see many reviews or actual product pictures of this key cover so hope this helps someone out there! Quality, fit, and finish all seem top notch. Even applied some PPF over the back of the key where the red logo is - call me OCD.:D

Tracking some additional mods to this thread.

Added obligatory LEDs I has leftover from my FK7 hatch.

Also added cup holder and pocket protectors from Cupholder Hero. Compliments the red accents nicely.

Tempered glass screen protector. At least I have buttons and a volume knob now!

Also something interesting I noticed. Looks like Honda beefed up this trim piece over the years. On my 2017 hatch, this came to a sharp edge that got caught on microfiber towels ALL the time - absolutely drove me nuts. Glad to see they fixed it though. Continuous improvements, right? :)

DIY’d some PPF on the door sills. Turned out pretty decent. Going to try the trunk lip next. Used this rounded edge cutting tool if anyone’s interested.

First casualty.... so pissed at myself for doing this. Drove into a construction site and didn’t realize the lip along the side of the road.

Ordered some CBP touch up paint to cover the gouges. Hopefully it’ll somewhat hide the damage.

Turns out CBP is not the correct paint code for the Type R rims. It’s Berlina Black instead. Tried cleaning it up and applying if the best I could. Also used some rubber cement to glue down the damaged rubber.

Not the best application but definitely looks better than before. Still feel like an idiot though, but I’ll consider it a battle scar for now. :)

Finally got my splash guards installed. Ended up going with Sukeban Designs with the faux carbon fiber overlay. Loving the subtle look so far but think there may be opportunities to trap dirt with the wide cut holes for adjustment. Time will tell.

Those splash guards are sick!! I was going to go with OEM ones, but those are nice and subtle.

Appreciate it man! I wish there was an OEM option for the R but figured this was the next best option. Had Rally Armors for my last car but wanted something more subdued this time around.

Well that was short lived. Did quite a bit of driving the last few days in both dry and wet weather and the holes are definitely letting dirt and dust through. Going to see if I can fabricate a solution to hopefully seal them up from dirt and debris.

The holes used for mounting them were letting debris through?? That is concerning

Unfortunately but the holes do serve a purpose to give horizontal adjustability. I have since found a solution (hopefully - fingers crossed). Purchased some fender washers to go between the adjustable holes and the hardware. Hoping this will keep clean going forward. The washers came uncoated so gave it a nice coat of satin black to help blend in with the fender wells.

Likewise, man. I get sick to my stomach each time I see it but better the wheels than the body, I guess. :dunno: Maybe this will accelerate my switch to 18s haha.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted but still enjoying driving her every time. Ended up getting some new wheels and tires over the winter season.
