IF that actually happens (and I strongly believe it's BS) it wouldn't happen for some time and it wouldn't be for ALL imports, just companies that move manufacturing from the US to other countries (Mexico) or so he spouts. If he put a 35% tarriff on all imports he would start a huge trade war with dire consequences. He is by no means a scholar, but I don't think even he is that dumb. Please don't get me started/off topic on Dump. This forum is my distraction from US politcs. He did pull out of negotiations for the TPP today, but that shouldn't effect anything.

Without going to into detail with the whole import tax thing, Honda does Manufacture a lot of cars in the US but who knows what the specifics would actually be if it ever happened. But I agree with J35W2, if it did, it wouldn't happen for some time. We all thought brexit was going to be a mess with exports, and nothing has come of that either...yet haha

So around 34k USD if a direct conversion.

Not bad,

I'll take 1 please.

I think it'll cost a little more for the US.

US Civic hatchback: $19,700 USD
Canadian Civic hatchback: $21,390 CAD

1.086 conversion factor.
Current USD to CAD is 1.35 conversion factor, which makes a Canadian spec Honda relatively cheaper.

19,700 x 1.35 = $25,910

Assuming we use 1.086, this makes the Type R $41,436 USD.

This is way more than a Focus RS and an STI. I haven't looked at the conversions for other US and Canadian Hondas though.

I just received an estimate from my local Honda dealer for a Canadian spec 2017 Civic Type R. He said to expect 45k MSRP as per Honda Corporate. July 2017 Delivery.
Seems like a few members are saying July-August release at this point....I won't believe anything until John Mendel, the Vice President of American Honda says it's going to be released around that time.....

I agree Tim, it looks like July, August is the release time frame. I'd almost bet it's going to be August to justify MY2018. Although that might not make sense since it probably takes 8 weeks from date of manufacture to arrival at destination dealerships.

You can't do a straight up currency conversion and assume that if the CTR in Canada is $45,000 CAD that it's $34,000 USD down south. My Touring is priced at $27,390 in Canada and I don't see it being $20,825 in the US. Honda Canada only prices it's vehicles marginally higher than it's US counterparts due to a marginal increase in equipment when comparing the same trim. It can't account directly for the exchange rate with the US dollar as a benchmark otherwise no one will buy their cars.

Can we not use the RS as a comparison? What's the RS cost in Canada vs US? That may not be an exacta, but should give somewhat of an idea, no?

It's 10k less is the US, I firmly believe that's a very good indication. We're not talking about Australia here that's on the other side of the planet. Again, not exacta, just an indication that it won't be 40 plus US.

And don't forget the biggest part of the equation here. The US almost always pays less for cars than the rest of the world, be it for less options etc.

Oh you guys were talking about Focus I guess.

Ford Focus RS is practically $40,000 USD once properly equipped.
Golf R starts at $39,375 USD
STi ranges between $35,195 and $39,995 depending on trim.

With that being said, considering how the Type R has been in the dark for 20 years in the US, has significant hype behind its release, and on a rumor that it would be manufactured in less units than said competition, I don't understand how people are thinking why Honda would UNDERCUT it's competitors by $5000...

Focus RS in Canada comes loaded at $48,418 with wheel packages and everything standard.
Golf R is $40,695 base. Tech pkg is $1,945
Sti is $37,995 to $45,395 depending on trim.

In Canada I wouldn't be surprised at a $45,000 MSRP for the CTR
