What gas do you use?

Book says at least '87, which is what I put in my Element (03) and Odyssey (06).

Any tips on why one might be better than the other?

I just follow the recommendation in the OM. Frankly even if you put in 93 octane I don't believe you will see any measureable gains. There may be an existing thread on this site about this topic.

I use 87 octane and stick to name brand fuels... Costco, Exxon , Sunoco , Phillps 66 , Shell etc.

I notice in my sister's Hyundai owners manual that they recommend top tier gas. If you use gasoline without the top tier blessing you have to run a bottle of Chevron Techron or similar cleaner every so often to clean the injectors and clean the deposits off the intake valves.
