I was dead set on getting the OEM red leather shift knob, but when i found out about the price, that its lighter & sits too high, i started looking somewhere else.
Customized this Red Satin Slammer with Ring Engraving from the Raceseng website, and i couldn't be happier. QUALITY is Craaazzyyy! It took a lil while to arrive, but definitely worth the wait.

Looks great!
Did you use the adapter?
Did you need to remove the boot plate to install it?
What is holding the boot up?
Thanks!

Thank you @556ALPHA! Seems like you already have a Raceseng

Anyway, to answer your questions:

Yes i used the Adapter from Raceseng.
Not sure what "boot plate" you're referring to, but i did NOT have to remove Anything...
I simply pinched & pulled the top of the leather boot to bring it down, removed the OEM knob, put the Raceseng adapter, screwed the new knob then adjusted for straightening/alignment of the engraving by using a 14mm wrench on the base of the OEM nut.
Whatever was holding the leather boot up before i put the new knob is what's holding it up STILL.

Damn hard to put it in words, but i hope you got it.

Thanks FK_8

I was trying to figure out if you used the boot adapter from Raceseng. So you kept the stock 14mm nut on? I may redo mine so the shifter is a little higher with the factory nut on.

I received my Raceseng on Friday but was waiting until I had time this am. I saw your post and figured you would be best to give me some help with the install. Hopefully you do not mind me posting in your thread, if so just shoot me a pm and I will edit it. I tackled the install this am. I did remove the shift boot plate and removed the original shift boot retainer as I did not understand that the original chrome retainer would work. I had ordered the Raceseng boot adapter so I used it.

Seems like I did things the hard way so for others seems there is no need to buy the boot adapter, just remove the shifter, stock lock nut, then install the threaded adapter onto the factory threaded shift rod. Thread knob on and done.

Anyway using the Raceseng boot adapter works well. Here are a few finished photos.

Looks Awesome, man!
I didn’t get the boot adapter, so i still do have that chrome adapter on. Yours look flush and good! Mine is a few mm taller, which i actually prefer.
You can’t go wrong with Raceseng quality! Good pick.

Thank you. Yea, I think the 1/2” the factory nut provides is helpful. I may redo it tomorrow.

First let me say....both, FK_8 and 556ALPHA, your shift knobs look great!

Couple questions if I may. How heavy is the knob compared to stock? How hard would you say the install is? Does it sit lower or higher than the stock knob...or about the same height?

I went to Racesengs website and they look like pretty quality shift knobs. Like FK_8, I was deadset on getting the red leather shift knob...and the same detractors (additional height, lighter) have put me looking elsewhere.

Thanks!

Weight is 636g vs 142g
It took me a bit to figure out how to install it, but now that you have this post, it should be a breeze. The Raceseng will sit higher because its bigger, but still not bad. Depends on your preference whether you’ll order the boot adapter (slightly lower) or like mine without it. You can’t go wrong either way.

Mine sits about the same as stock not using the stock retaining nut and the Racesemg boot retainer. You can leave the stock lock nut in place and use the standard oem boot retainer which will raise it about 1/2”.

I got some driving in this evening and I think I am going to keep it like I have it installed. As shown above the slammer is 635 grams, almost 4.5x heavier than the stock Si shifter. It definitely translates and in my opinion provides a worthy positive difference in shift feel. Is it worth it? That will certainly depend on what each person feels individually. I would definitely order it again. Top notch quality and craftsmanship. I went subtle with gloss white as a throwback to the old Hurst cue ball type. Originally ordered gloss red but changed my mind after a 3 week backorder. Customer service is top notch at Raceseng as well.

Thanks for the thread guys & looking good. I just ordered the Translucent Bronze Slammer to match my bronze VMR wheels. They should both be here about the same time, ha.

With more driving I am enjoying the Raceseng even more. Looking forward to seeing your results on those custom colors.
