Roof Fin Antenna question

If anyone knows, does the roof fin on our Civic SI's only for AM/FM/XM radio or does it tie in with the key fob functions?

Really curious because I'm not a fan of this fin and would like to remove it (but with it sounding like quite a task I thought I would ask first). Would very much prefer the printed antenna on the rear glass.

Correct - the task seems large. I know I would have to remove the headliner and unscrew the fin from underneath exposing a hole in the roof sheet metal. I would fill this, but was wanting to know if I did remove this fin would it impact the keyfob. Because that's not worth doing. I very much like the civic keyfob functions

but in 15 years + I've listened to the radio maybe once.

Strongly doubt it's related to the key fob communications, but maybe GPS?

GPS antenna is located under the small dash pad above instrument cluster. The roof fin is for the satellite radio.

Not only can it receive satellite signals from the other side of the Earth, -- it also doubles as an actual horizontal stabilizer in heavy rain!

Without looking at the schematics, I'd be willing to say it does AM/FM/SXM w/ hd tied to the FM side anyways.

With all this tech in these cars I would leave that alone. Probably void all your warranties for the electronics.

You could always wrap the fin in camouflaged vinyl. This way no one would see it.
