So I'm preparing to install a powered subwoofer in my 2017 Civic Touring. By now, the entire forum is aware that the Touring's factory sub is shit and has no depth whatsoever. I'm on the fence about the RF P300-10 and 12. Amazon was selling the 10" model for $158.99 up until today, where it's now seemingly only available for Prime members at $186.44 brand new ($135.14 used). The P300-12 is still available to anyone at $199.99, and this is where a question comes into play for me. Do I stick with the 10" model or go to the 12" size for just $20 more? I ask this because from what I know/have heard from 12s in the past, they're way more boomy than 10s and don't deliver the tight, punchy bass a 10 can.

I had an 8" powered sub in my old setup, and it was decent, so I'd imagine a 10 would only sound so much better. My unsureness here comes from the price change now making it a $20 gap between the two models, and 12s having maybe too much boom. Are powered 12s more punchy and crisp than separate amp+sub installs?

It's my opinion that 10"s are the best subs ever, I've had everything from 8" to 15". If you're not exclusively listening to hip-hop (or other super bass heavy music), 10"s are much better. I prefer clarity over shaking my mirror off the windshield tho.

I have a P3 12" in my WRX that I got buy 1 get 1 free, and I sold the second for full price (free sub!). I would definitely rather have a 10, but it's a fantastic sub.

I have a P2D2-12 in a sealed box. I listen to a variety of music but mostly rock. I love the way the 12 can handle mostly everything and doing the sealed box keeps it from being ridiculously boomy. I'm very happy it.

I'd go with Rockford's low end stuff before I'd go with JL's low end.

Now if we're talking about a w7.... well then there's no substitution. I should get an 8w7 for my Civic.

Reason I said that was because I had 2 of their subs in my last honda and in the winter when it was really cold they wouldn't work :dunno:

I have the JL 12W3v3 paired with a JL JX500/1 Monoblock... I wouldn't consider those low end at all. Their W0 and W1 are their lower end.

I live in Charleston. What is "cold"? :D:D:D

I figured I'd take a chance on the Rockford...the cost was certainly right. I went with some pretty lower end stuff and given the budget, I couldn't be happier with how it sounds.

oh I was talking like -10°C to -18°C... do the conversion to °F if you must... either way, they didnt work it was like they would freeze in the winter lol.

The JL setup I have now (nor any of my previous W0 or W1 setups) never gave me any issues and always sounded awesome.

Yeah, we never see those temps (that's why I moved here!) The lowest we got this year was -2c. And that was one morning. We're 31c or higher for about 7 months starting now.

I have the Cerwin Vega 10 inch underseat powered subwoofer. (VPAS10) Works great for my needs. Fills the cabin with bass and not your trunk. View attachment 34715 Won't shake the car next to you. So if you're wanting that, look elsewhere. View attachment 34715

I had the 12" one in another car and I put the 10" one in my Civic and I really can't tell a difference I would save the extra money.
