I was thinking the same thing.
The car handles remarkably well. I drove from the dealer to my tire shop in my new LX 6 speed Coupe and changed the "tires" that came on it to Michelin Pilot Sports which are by far the best street tire available. They in fact are almost 2cm wider in the tread than the Firestones and the improvement in traction can be felt without driving aggressively. If you check out Consumer Reports on the "evasion maneuver" speed which is the most dramatic driving 99% of drivers will ever do; the Civic had a higher speed than every small car including the Mini Cooper S and the BMW 3 and even the BMW Z4 pure sports car. I could not find a sedan/coupe to equal it including Audi & Mercedes and that is with the stock tires. Of course, you can't make a FW drive car oversteer so it may not be as much fun to drive as the Beemer but it is very capable.
