Not sure why your title says Focus RS. How do you know its the RS thats affected? The US version didnt come out until 2016 and the article mentions 2011-2015 Australian model years affected.
For what it's worth the US RS models seem to be blowing a lot of head gaskets.

When I started looking for an alternative to buying a Type R I looked at the Focus RS and passed.

I was around in the late 80s when the Escort GT was popular and they ended up being an overpriced throw away car and I think the Focus RS will be the same

Well I was just reading the latest C&D last night and they had an article on recalls in the industry and Honda and Mazda are amongst the worst when it comes to recalls in ratio to cars sold. Worse than Ford so I'm not sure anyone here should start calling out other manufacturers for recalls.

I would like to see what those numbers are without the Takata recall.

Wow, I did some follow-up research on what you said. Seems the engine block casting is cracking right where the bottom of the head bolts are, causing leaks. Head gasket in that area as well. A lot of posts about it. Makes me scratch my head in bewilderment. You would think manufacturers would test the livin shit out of their premo hot rods.

I've only had one "personal" encounter with a Focus RS. We were in the mountains of NC and this guy had a Borla exhaust on his. Man that thing sounded good. Hopefully his head gasket is still in tact. Ha

Every manufacturer has issues with their all new vehicles. It's how they treat the customers and if they engineer the fixes in or keep the crap quality. I have owned many Ford's in the past, they generally are a reliable engine and if attached to a manual trans is fine but their overall engineering quality is quite lacking. There is a reason they have to give so many rebates to buyers of their cars and trucks. Little things like the inside handles breaking and they keep known issues without fixing them model year after model year. First and not last Honda for me. Great quality, engineering, and customer experience.

How many of those cars were modded or had bigger turbos put on them? Anything is possible with cars like these. I would bet that more than a few of those were related to something that the owner did.

The next generation Focus will be built in China. That should address any assembly issues.;)

When I put that in the title I didnt call out the RS specifically, just Ford. Now all manufacturers may have problems but with these issues coming out in the span of a few weeks is concerning.

Here is another one about Ford knowing that their PowerShift transmission was faulty but they were still selling it to customers:

-

I mean if this is happening with these other models, what might creep up to the RS later on? How can you rely on Ford if this is happening to their cars?

I'm not bashing Ford, I like ford, I was even looking into buying the RS, they just need to up their game on reliability and customer support.

Soon to be FK8.

I guess you can never be sure about anything posted on the web as people may not want to admit it if they'd done something that might have caused the problem, but in the few cases of serious failures with the RS that I've seen, none of them said they'd had anything done to the engine.
