Just curious how many of you will determine when it is time to change your oil. Will you wait until the oil indicator gets to a certain percentage (15%) or will you change it at a certain mileage (such as every 5,000 miles). I drive 90% highway miles, so I'm guessing I could put on 7k or 8k miles before the oil life reaches 15%. Thoughts?

I just bought my civic yesterday and the sales guy told me wait until 15 percent.
he also said depending on how you drive is how many miles you'll get outta her before service.
7k or 8k sounds about right.

Synthetic 0W20 oil is what Honda recommends for the 2.0 so I'll be following the Maint Minder system - changing at 20-15% life left.

with my CRV and my Crosstour, I ended up getting 9 thousand to 9500 miles before I hit 15%, I drive mostly highway steady speeds

I get free oil changes for life for my civic as long as I go to the dealership I bought it from. So I'm going to go by the maintenance minder like they told me to do

I will leave the break-in oil in until the maintenance reminder says to change it, then make up my mind based on forum consensus. Never had a car with oil this light. I assume the break in oil is important though, and hope people don't go out and flush it with mobile 1 right off the lot, thinking it helps.

If you drive mostly highway commuting, the minder will probably go to 9000+ miles. With good oil this shouldn't be an issue. I may sent a sample out for used oil analysis to make sure

I believe the oil life % drops in increments of 10%. You'll never see 15%.

Incorrect, on both my CRV and Crosstour it drops by 10s until ot reaches 15, then it drops by 5s

After the first 2,000km to flush out any break-in metal shavings and then when oil life is at 15-10%.

Dealer told me to ignore the maintenance minder light and come in every 3,000 miles because it's safer. I wonder how many people that works on. I will be using the maintenance minder.

I was told this once before by an Acura dealer, because I do mostly highway miles my car was only asking for an oil change around every 9 thousand miles, they said omg that's not safe! Come in at 5 thousand.
I never went there again.
