I've owned a few turbo cars in the past, and maybe it's the way they were designed (Audi, Volvo), but this new Si is WAY loud with the wooooooooooooooooo PSSSSSHT blow off valve sounds.

Is this real sound or some kind of artificial cabin sound effect?

You'll have to pardon me for my ignorance.

On the one hand it's ricey as heck but on the other hand it's really cool too. Hehe

It's a small turbo which spools up real quick. Plus 16 psi to 20 psi depending on sport mode... it builds up pressure quick. The sound is much more noticeable with an intake!

You can actually hear the turbocharger spooling and the wastegate diverting with the stock air admission system? Wow that's so cool! I can't wait to get my 2018 orange Si!

I never heard my turbocharger or blow-off valve until almost 2,000 miles of driving including plenty of full-throttle runs. Even then, I had to turn off the radio and A/C, roll down the windows, and make a conscious effort to listen. There's so much other noise from the engine, road, wind, and exhaust that it's almost impossible to hear unless you know what you're listening for. If there's other traffic around making noise - forget it.

Finally
, I heard the faint turbine whine/whistle of the turbocharger and the slightest sound of air pressure being released when letting off the accelerator - and I'm okay with that. Unless we're talking about a tornado warning siren or a home theater speaker system, I prefer that things (and people) go about their jobs with a minimum amount of unnecessary noise. ;)

I have a hard time telling if it's my car or not. Every time I think I hear it there is a semi or a bus near by and I don't know if it's me or them.

My experience is the same as zroger73 and curtman's. I wonder what the difference is with the OP's car.

Yeah I really don't ever hear anything unless I have it in sport mode and I am in the middle of town and running it pretty hard (which I don't do) :)

Short ram. (I don't care about "heart soak" ordeal nor do i care to hear about it).
To make it even more noticeable without the intake is to remove the resonator that's located underneath t the air box. But the intake really does the trick. You'll definitely hear the recirculator as well.
