Maybe it might sound like a dumb question but I do not see it in the manual, I do not see them light up while I'm driving in real dark areas like I do when I hit the brakes. I always see people in my rear view coming real close and have a stupid look on their faces. "IF" they don't, is that an accident waiting to happen because you'll always have tailgating a**holes driving to close. I use the ACC 95 % of my commute.

I'm just looking for definitive proof

Look in the Owner's Manual. Get your hands dirty!

Yes, ACC and LSF can apply the brakes and the brake lights are lit.

Discussed on page 416 in the 2016 OM. Probably about the same page in the '17 OM.

Yes, I can very clearly see my 3rd brake light turning on during ACC.

Disclaimer: do not take your eyes off the road while using ACC.

There you go. It's a yes, they do apply the brakes but not always. If you come up on a car slow enough, it just modulates the throttle before it brakes. My car doesn't always brake when the ACC is on unless there's probably a 3mph difference in speed.
