$36k isn't a deal breaker but it doesn't make me want to run out and buy one, either. If the site has any truth to it, $36k will be the starting point and will likely not be close to final price. This is now a $40k car.

I was hoping for the $32-$33k mark with a $36k final price.

Only a couple more weeks until we really know...
I subscribe to this, my thoughts also. 2 more months I think and we'll see first press reviews. If it doesn't stand out I won't pay such price. Imagine needing to sell the car shortly afterwards for whatever reason. With the depreciation I can say goodbye to 6k at least.

Not paying that much sorry Honda
They'd better have something really competitive for 36k+. Should it perform close to FK2 I'll get that in an instant for 20% less.

If the car is 32k with destination. I'll eat a shoe on YouTube and post it here.
The prices in euros for the OLD Type R FK2 in Europe were: base 33.400 / GT 35.800 / Special edition 37.200 EUR (see end of page http://www.honda.lu/cars/new/civic-type-r-2015/special-edition.html). The prices include 17% VAT. No import tax as UK has been part of European Union.
Given that they said somewhere it will be 1k more than previous Type R. I guess for me here it will be like close to 37k euros(if they get out of EU by that time I expect more; I guess this is the reason they hold on any delivery/pricing info in Europe).
To get a rough corresponding US pricing look at current Hatchback pricing in Europe:
http://www.honda.lu/content/dam/loc...s/brochures-be/Civic5D_prijslijst2017LUXf.pdf
You can see that a top of the line 1.5 CVT is already 30.840 EUR(VAT included). But this is not all there are still the individual options(see below in the page)

Closing to 40k it gets out of my affordability comfort zone. I could stretch the budget but for something really amazing. Otherwise if I don't get anything I can hold on for 2-3 more years and get a Cayman (even a new one).
I think I'll pass FK9 TypeR 90% unless it's something unheard of that crushes the competition.

What we know about the pricing for the CTR at this point:

1. It will be "slightly over £30K" according to the Honda spokesman at the prototype debut

And that's pretty much it. Everything else is just wild speculation. However, we can extrapolate a possible price area if we take into consideration other variations of the Civic hatchback, on which the Type-R is based:

USD vs GBP
2017 Civic HB Sport $21.3K/£22.5K
2017 Civic HB EX $22.8K/£23.0K
2018 Civic HB Type-R $XX.XXX/£30.999

Equivalent platforms, equivalent engines, equivalent supply chains. It appears that the USD price is slightly less than the British numeric, at least on the lesser models. Can anybody shed light on why this would be any different for the Type-R?

This reviewer says the price will start at around £30000. He gives a good general review but he's not a fan of the styling.

You're missing the point, the hatchback Sport is $22k in the US, and 22k GBP in the UK.

The Type R is 31k GBP so it is logical it would be $31k in the US.

If there's only one trim, it'll be $34-35k. If there's a base trim it'll be $32k.

Not really, you could see my earlier post getting to same figures. I indicated Euro prices of fully loaded Hatch Sport(options)/ old FK2 Type R. The only thing that's left is that the ones across the pond grab the corresponding price for the same loaded Hatch Sport and get an equivalent FK2 Type R pricing. Sorry but I did not have knowledge/time to do that. I also provided the options list so that those interested can make a comparison.
I don't think that the top trim Sport Hatch is only 22k usd with tax over there. Importing it here and paying usual VAT + import cost would be 4-5k cheaper. No way.
Sport plus with CVT 1.5 petrol is 26.500 gbp in UK. It's there on their website.
