That's awesome. This car is no joke and it's gonna make the 10th gen Civic super popular with enthusiasts.

Too bad we don't find out who the "contracted pro test driver" is. Always a good piece of info to know since drivers can make so much difference with laptimes, especially on a long course like the Ring.

There's some controversy over this lap time (isn't there always with the Ring?) since the back seats were removed but they did also balance it out by adding a roll cage.

What do you guys think, does it matter?

What's even more awesome is they did this almost a year ago with a development vehicle and kept it under wraps. I'm sure it's been even more finely tuned since then.

It would have made little difference IMO. Dunno how heavy the backseats are but I doubt the net weight reduction was significant, if any at all.

Honda went on record saying that the removal of backseats and A/C was balanced by the roll cage and that the cage was only added for the safety of the driver, and not mounted in a way to affect body rigidity. Hmm that explanation might not go too well with its competitors, but we'll never know really what the truth is. I'm looking forward to seeing a stock Type R's lap times.

Any one know what tires the car was using?

They didn't say but the last two cars had AC as standard. I read that the tires were the ones designated for the car, no slicks were used.

Honda responded by saying the roll bar used was not welded in but was on mounting points only.

Meaning it didn't add any stiffness and rigidity right?

It was claimed to be for driver safety only, of course a lot of haters are questioning that and a whole bunch of other things like how much power the vehicle had etc.

Does Type R only come in manual or has ever had another transmission option?
