The specs for the SI are disappointing but don't knock Hyundai because Honda let you down again making a grocery getter that will be beat by every car out there...

Sat in a new 17 civic last week and the materials were soooo cheap....something hyundai does not do
I haven't been in the 17, but the last year of the last gen Civic's interior is nothing to write home about IMO. If only Hyundai would bring the I30N state side. That would be awesome! Europe has the best hot hatch toys. I don't know why that is so.

The Si isn't just about the power. The Si gives all the little flavors with updated bumpers, dedicated color, sportier feel interior, exhaust , sweet wheels, spoiler all the things to set it apart from the rest. Better resale value and higher insurance premiums.. lol

Resale value holds 0 weight for me. I buy a car to enjoy it, mod it to make it 'mine" and keep it for years till its run into the ground. Resale is not even a factor for most people as they are not thinking about when they get rid of it when they are just purchasing it. They think about how long it will last.
Re-sale and "how long it will last" are synonymous with each other. This is why the re-sales are so high for Hondas in general. 99-00 Civics still can fetch 2k if in decent enough shape body wise. Same holds true for older si's. It may not be something you specifically are thinking about, but when the car is 10 years old you can grab a couple bucks to help with your next purchase.

Sport hatch weighed 2,868 pounds in this months Car and Driver. Focus ST weight was listed at 3,248 pounds. Hopefully the SI won't gain much weight and stay around 2,900. 350 less pounds will help offset some of the torque advantage. It was also interesting that the Sport Hatch was quicker to 100 by .3 than the last ST Focus C&D tested (2015).
I'm coming from an E46 330i (3400 lbs) and the 6MT Sport feels so light and nimble in comparison, it makes it a joy to drive. You can't ignore weight when comparing HP.

No, they are not. You can get just as long out of a Nissan as you can a Honda, but Hondas resell for more. Why? People demand them more. There is MUCH more involved in what resale ends up at than you are factoring in.

You can get 2K on a 99-00 Escort or Focus, hell even a Neon. Your example is kinda crap. An Accord and an Altima can last just as long, that doesn't dictate that the Accord will have higher re-sale. Demand and condition factor much more.

Actually, no. No you can't.

Check lists of best resale and most durable cars...Nissan just doesn't appear on the lists.

In my rust belt town, I see plenty of old, old Hondas, old Subies, an occasional old Toyota, and oddly old Chevy disposables like the Cavalier that look like the rust is all that's holding them together.

I never see old Nissans that aren't pampered Z cars.

there's no use in going back n forth... @zx2down clearly doesn't buy cars to eventually get rid of them for a decent penny... he has so much money he can buy all of the forum members a Type R... so buying a Hyundai makes more sense to him since he gives them away after tossing them around...

If I can pick up a G90 for less than the price of the competition, unless it's due to some high recall or failure reports, I'm going to prefer to get the G90.
With due respect, you are not the norm. Most people (even those who claim to normally keep their car for decades) trade in their car after a few years, many after just a year or two.

Resale value matters . . . . even after 10 years.

When did all the kids join the forum?

I'm kinda waiting to see how much 9th gen Si's drop in value once the 10th gens come out... getting tempting to grab a 2014 or 2015 for $15k if the 2017 Si isn't going to perform substantially better for a presumed price over $26-27k. Especially if they are going to have about the same horsepower rating.

The new Si will perform better. I was on the same boat but I'm waiting cause I know it's going to be beast. It's going to have huge after market support. Plus we all know that on the 9th gen, if you want power you need boost it or do a head swap.

The Civic Touring Sedan CVT is faster than the previous gen Civic Si in straight line. There's no doubt the new Si is going to be even faster and handle better.

The 1.5 cvt might be faster but if your after a car that is much sportier in terms of handling, brakes, sound and even steering the 2014/2015 Si is way to go.
