With this logic, why purchase a Type R? A camry can get you from point A to B just fine gramps :)
I have no problem with driving hard. I just don't care to shock the drivetrain on something that I own. You're welcome to blow out your tranny/diff/axles and other parts as your heart content.

My assumption the Type R is rev limited to 3500rpm is something tells me that dual axis suspension and prone to a expensive failure with mechnical shocks and also wheel hop that comes with clutch drops.

Just because you never had an issue clutch dumping your car, it doesn't change the fact that the amount of shock that the drive train sees is big. Especially with such grippy tires, the load/shock has to go somewhere other than the tires.

Doesn't make them a gramps because they don't want to do clutch dumps on a car that they spent their hard earned money on. some people buy cars for enjoyment and the thrill of driving and not care for straight line speed.

From the perspective of someone who has never and will never be on a track or drag strip or modifies their vehicles in any way (me), it's interesting to see the relationship between different vehicles.

$35K Type R - $40K-$60K with ADM vs. ($25K Si) vs. ($31K Camry)
Zero to 60 mph: 4.9 sec (6.3 sec) (6.1 sec.)
Zero to 100 mph: 11.5 sec (15.9 sec) (15.0 sec.)
Zero to 130 mph: 21.7 sec (34.4 sec) (N/A)
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 5.8 sec (7.4 sec) (6.4 sec)
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 9.4 sec (12.6 sec) (N/A)
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 6.1 sec (8.3 sec) (N/A)
Standing ¼-mile: 13.5 sec @ 108 mph (14.8 sec @ 96 MPH) (14.6 sec @ 98 MPH)
Top speed (drag limited, C/D est): 170 mph (gov ltd 137 mph) (gov ltd 129 mph)
Braking, 70-0 mph: 142 ft (N/A) (189 ft)
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 1.02 g (N/A) (0.79 g)

At $25K and low maintenance costs, the Si is a performance bargain and a great daily driver. At $35K and higher maintenance costs, the Type R's additional performance seems worth the price for a track car, but not so much as a daily driver. At $40-60K (thanks to ADM), it's very difficult to argue a case for the Type R at all.

most people are paying msrp and by next year definitely msrp or lower. Relatively a speed bargain.

People that are fascinated by the 0-60mph are just noobs.

What is really fascinating is the trap speed. 108MPH is a lot.

This CTR will literally murder the competition on roll races. Like I had been saying before it was released.

There's a handful of cars out there that is faster in a straight line than the CTR under $40k. What's great about the CTR is that it's fast and handles amazing. If I wanted a car that has more prestige and is faster 1/4 for around the same price, I would purchase a base M240i.

pretty much, I care about the trapspeeds, shows what kind of power its really making. If stop light drag is your think, probably should go for something optimal like rwd. There really isn't much you can do with physics when you launch and all the weight is shifted to non driven wheels.

I'm pretty sure MT will do a head to head with Type R and Focus RS. These cars bring in tons of viewers, they'd be dumb not to.

I think 6secs is more realistic. According to the article, getting it there wasn't easy. Either you bog or spin the tires.
In the review video below, the driver was getting consistent low 6's. The CTR has a launch control when you put it into +R mode, floor it, and it only goes up to 3500 RPM.

all the 1/4 mi and 0 - 60 stuff is good stuff, but to match it with the 1.02g lateral limit, that's what enabled the nurburgring time!!! WoW! Can't wait!! :spaz::spaz::spaz::spaz:
"The grip is tenacious to say the least and will undoubtedly exceed the Civic Si’s impressive 0.97g lateral acceleration figure." - http://www.motortrend.com/cars/honda/civic/2017/2017-honda-civic-type-r-first-drive-review/

Civic Type R - 1.02g
Civic Si - 0.97g - that's splitting hairs

Civic Sport - 0.88g
Civic Sedan - 0.84g - that's splitting hairs again

Although suspension does play a role in lateral acceleration, the lateral acceleration / braking distance is not a really great comparison because they don't use the same tires. You'll obviously pull more G's / stop faster with better tires which the Type R has over the other 2.

What if the SI was using the same tires as the Type R? or the hatchback sport was using the same tires as the SI.

Still waiting for real world results like that video showing him getting ~6 sec 0-60s

I didn't want this car for the 0-60, but anything beyond what I wanted it for is a plus!
I'm right there with you. I did not buy this car for 0-60 pulls/times, but interesting/impressive to see that a reputable source was able to get it under 5.0 secs. Not sure I've ever heard of a FWD car (stock) that has broken the 5.0 mark.
