I've had my Si coupe for four days, and I'm in love with it. Admittedly it's not going to be visiting a track anytime soon, but my work commute has been a hoot. The standard all-season tires are adequate, and hey, they do carry a "W" speed rating.

It looks like this is the first LL set to be done on the new surface: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/lightning-lap-2014-results-and-sector-times-feature
I would be interested to see C&D take a car that was timed before the changes and time it again. How significant are those changes? That way we can have some point of comparison. For all we know the changes could have made the times slower!

I honestly don't think it makes a huge difference. I still believe the 2017 Si is faster than the 2012. Is it by 10 seconds or 9? Doesn't change that our Si is faster! Until a fully indoor track is built so humidity, temperature, wind, etc. can be 100% controlled there will always be variable which change lap times.

A minor problem has come to light:

https://jimsgarage.wordpress.com/2014/04/29/vira-whole-new-track/

The newest tests are on a modified, repaired and resurfaced version of VIR.
In 2013 the BRZ had a time of 3:18.6
http://www.caranddriver.com/feature...s-feature-lightning-lap-2013-ll1-class-page-3

In 2017 the BRZ had a time of 3:19.7
http://www.caranddriver.com/features/lightning-lap-2017-every-lap-time-and-full-data-feature

The BRZ hasn't seen HUGE updates since it's release; so I would argue this is a decent point of comparison. What is shocking is that the BRZ actually got a slower time as it was improved over the years! Is the definitive proof? Absolutely not! But I think it is safe to say the updates won't affect times too much.

Popular consensus from some racer friends was that the new surface was worth 1.5s to 2s on the Full Course (black outline). Some of that though is due to the added track-out room outside the exit curbing at Oak Tree and Nascar Bend

So improved times by 1.5s to 2s?

...countered by some random wet spots throughout the track after the rainstorm (despite moving to the following week). And the BRZ's lap times seem to correlate with those conditions.

I'd say it's a wash - pun intended.
