Brake Hold seems to be a great feature. Is there any reason not to activate it all the time?

I use it in heavy traffic or while at a stop light. Comes in handy.

I can see that this is useful in heavy traffic.
Is there any reason not to turn it on all the time? Any possibility of premature wear on the brakes?

I tried it out for a little bit when I first bought the car, but haven't used it much since. I found the engagement of first gear to be a little rougher than without the brake hold. I'm assuming due to needing to overcome the braking force applied.

I have been driving an automatic car for many years. With the 6MT, I am always concerned that I leave the car with the gear in neutral and no parking brake.

Does this brake hold work when the car is powered down?

Used it once just to try it out. I could see if you were in traffic on a steep incline it could be useful. Other than that it seems pretty useless.

It's surprisingly good, but I only use it on occasion for hills or excessive stops. I'm not a fan of using the electronic actuators more often than necessary (wear and tear). There can also very slight drag on the rotors/clutch when first engaging from a stop. Really though... we're splitting hairs unless talking several hundred thousand miles.

No. The brake hold maintains hydraulic pressure on the brakes when stopped while the car is running, you can sometimes feel it engage on the brake pedal. However, when brake hold is enabled, it will automatically engage the electronic parking brake when the car is shut off. These two brake systems are separate.

But also, I never leave the car parked in neutral.

Yup, I’ve always left my manual transmission cars in first gear when parking.... Actually on perfectly flat ground I’ve just left the e-brake off and just in gear.

Seems to work just fine when I have used it......used it for a bout a week while I was getting use to the difference in clutches from old car and the 17 Si

I don't have it on frequently, so the few times I do activate it I usually forget it's still on like, literally, a stop light later.

Oops.

Only downside IMO.

I turn it on on steep hills with stoplights, saves me a little anxiety when the guy behind me is too close.

I agree completely. This is why I am thinking to leave it on all the time!

I don't really like having it on all the time, like someone else said it takes a bit more to get going in first and I don't love that. In cars with a manual handbrake you could use it on steep hills to get started without rolling back, I see the brake hold as a 2017 version of that. I'm still a pretty new manual driver so it gives me some confidence in situations like coming out of a parking garage with people behind me, or getting stuck in traffic on a hill, but on flat ground or on a hill with no one behind me I prefer to take off without brake hold.
