I have the LX with base head unit. The sound quality is lacking, at least in my ears. I think I'm going to need to change the head unit. I would like to keep functionality of the back up camera. I've looked at the crutchfield site but nothing listed. My question really is this a standard size, and is the retention of the stock back up camera a common feature. Sadly not many car stereo stores around me, the Al and Eds closed I guess. Fairly certain that most all other steering wheel functions are covered.

Also do you think that most of the interior panels just pull off. I want to change out all 4 speakers with better one I already have. but I don't want to wreck anything doing it.

Thanx,

Replacing the speakers is likely going to have a much bigger effect on sound quality than replacing the head unit would.

Reading the sound quality review I note little improvement. And the mention of filtered bass frequencies. MY unit (not the same one in the link ) seems to suffer from the lack of the lower spectrum say like anything less than 50hz. The stock unit has no punch what so ever. I'm afraid that it might suffer from the same issue. We'll see, I'll try the rear deck speaker first to see.

If the head unit is cutting out lower frequencies by default and the crossover point isn't adjustable then that's gonna be a problem even with new speakers. 50Hz is also pretty low and I'd be surprised if small door or deck speakers would reproduce it well. On home theater systems at least the standard is that anything 80Hz or lower goes to the sub.

Not to be nit picky but for I need 30hz. I guess that might be un-realistic. Just as a note my home stereo system goes to 12hz. with out a sub. I can't hear it but I feel it. I'm sure that if the head unit spits out the kind of lows I want, the old MB Quart speakers I have will let me know or not.

I'm the one that wrote that thread

After a bit of tuning I can tell you that it definitely sounds better than stock, even with just the front speakers done. I'm doing the rear speakers and, if I have enough time, installing the amp & sub, this afternoon.

The head unit is DEFINITELY cutting out important frequencies so I hope somebody finds a way to bypass the DSP soon.

Any update on the sound after adding the amp/sub?

I'm not finished yet :(

I installed Polk DB651 in the rear and removed the pitiful 8 inch sub that came with the car. I will be replacing it with a Polk DB840 which will be wired in parallel with my Pioneer 10" slim enclosure and powered with my Kenwood 8105D.

It took me several hours to figure out how to remove the rear deck without breaking anything. It was much more complicated and time-consuming than my 8th gen.

I will try to take pictures when I put it back together.

I also couldn't find a rubber plug through to the fender to get to the battery like the 8th gen had. After searching in the tiny cramped space for an hour or so, I gave up and drilled a hole myself.

I'll update again when I'm done.

I have a cdn lx...rocking a 10" jl sub powered by an amp pulling a signal of off the rear 6.7's. Audio guys also installed some kinda crossover to capture lower frequencies to the box...name eludes me but all off of the stock head unit.

I listen to alot of drum and bass and can tell you this has made a huge difference in the thump factor...i have the bass one notch above half and it pounds awesomely.

My next move >>> gonna replace all the 6.7s with R series Alpine 6.5's leaving the tweets alone cause they're shockingly effective. Apparently they're 2 set of tweets in my lx, a pair on the a-pillar & a pair in the rear deck.

Also gonna tie everything up with some dyno-matting. Will update results once done.

PS - Honda truly nailed it with this awesome 10th gen weapon. To think i was gonna get me a subaru wrx...man i woulda had regrets.

They installed a line out converter, to send low frequency from the speaker wire through rca cables to your sub. Glad to hear it sounds great. I was slight worried that there weren't low enough frequencies coming from the 180 watt head unit.

I am doing the same thing this week except the amp I ordered accepts speaker level input directly.

^^^ let us know how it turns out.

I also wrote into Honda voicing my displeasure that the DSP maybe restricting frequencies in proportion to increased volume. I asked them to confirm this & if so if there'll be a solution.

Any tips on getting the rear deck out?

*edit*

Got the rear deck out this morning (after about 2 hours of pushing and pulling) and have 6.7" kickers installed in the front and back now. I can't believe Honda makes you rip half of the car apart to get at the rear speakers. Why can't there just be a removable panel above the speakers? I ended up accidentally ripping the wires out of the stock component tweeters because I thought they were mounted to the car frame like the larger speakers are. Nope. So be careful if anyone pulls out the rear deck. I haven't decided if I'm going to try to repair them or just disable the rear crossovers.

Either way it sounds great the way it is. It's quite a bit louder and I can basically crank the volume with no distortion and everything sounds very clear. There's no deep bass, but it's nice and punchy. I left the rear seat out for the time being until I run my amp wires later this week when it arrives. It should sound great.
