Using all the tips @planedoc & @Design gave me, I decided to open up the factory fill (low quality honeywell oil filter vs better filtech filter which Honda did not use here) to see how it looked. This was after just 2500 miles. I cut it with side cutters and avoided any foreign material landing onto the filter.

Nothing too alarming, but it is pretty gummed up for the low mileage IMO. The main issue is the raw gas smell. Very strong. Also, there is a fair amount of small silicone pieces from the seals (shown best in 2nd last pic)

Take it how you like, I just wanted to show my findings.

My 1990 civic been running its whole life on fram oil filter and have over 300k miles. Motor never open up or rebuilt. Motor runs like a champ and don’t burn any oil. Just passed smog with flying colors so say what you want to say haha

I'm going to give the HKS filter a shot. A little pricey, but not really when you consider this is the life blood of the K20c1. Anybody have any experience with or opinions about these? I like that it has magnets at the top to trap metal bits and maintains oil pressure.

Any info as to what micron it filters too? AMSOIL filters filter to 20 microns which is industry leading, that HKS is likley a nice choice though forsure.

That is a testament to Honda, not to Fram. Cut open a Fram compared to any other filter and you will be appalled at how flimsy and cheap they are.

The gas smell is probably blow by due to the forced induction. Shouldn't be a surprise from a turbo motor.
