This is the production ready 2018 Honda Civic Type R at last. Sticking closely to its prototype concept car, the new Type R looks aggressive. Powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged VTEC engine producing 316bhp and 400Nm of torque, this hot hatchback aims to be the best handling in its class.

Honda are holding back some key pieces of information such as 0-62mph, top speed, and price, until the cars launch at the beginning of the summer. However, we do now know that there will be selectable drive modes including comfort, sport, and +R. The 2018 Honda Civic Type R has a 38% stiffer torsional rigidity thank the FK2 it replaces. A wider track and intricate aerodynamic package should seen faster lap times. Dual axis suspension fight torque steer.

There will be more content on Type R coming from the Geneva motor show later today.

Unless the msrp is 32k or below.

HP means nothing... I drive a 178rwhp Lotus that openly crushes 500+ hp vehicles all day long at my local tracks.

Weight is what matters. If they keep this car around 3000 then it's fine... if they do sub 2900 this car will be a destroyer!

I realize HP is not everything by any means. Weight and balance are very important as well.
I have to admit though I am still a bit disappointed to hear that its going to be 306 HP (North America) after all the 340 HP rumours that had persisted for some time out there. Two years of waiting for such a small bump is a bit of a surprise. The rest is nice and it looks like a nice package. Also a little surprised they actually went with 20" wheels.

Also Guys, Remember Honda has historically (and more so on the 2016+ turbo cars) UNDERRATED their HP #s,

so IMO it's
316 Brake horsepower [bhp] = 320.382 Horsepower [HP] (+ 10 HP) as my current understanding is BHP = HP - drive-train losses

which is quite significant - and with a drop of 35lbs base - and the little tricks - I REALLY think we are going to be surprised once on a track by a good driver (not the journalists who claim to be but don't know the differences between a DSG/Automatic/Manual)

Why are people such spec whores?

Do you care about actual performance, or just numbers?
because the industry told us that's all that matters....
personally - I could care less than I do - I haven't yet compared to other hot hatches, because - the only thing that will sway me is the cost.

Common sense tells me if they under rated the 1.5t then more than likely the 2.0 will be underrated as well

This is true. Hell the 1.5 CVT's are pretty damn undertuned.
