This engine does have real VTEC on the intake side (even it's a DOHC). If i get the chance, i would like to drive a 3 cylinder from Honda. I only drove a KIA and BMW 3 cylinder and they were better than thought.
Hell yeah, I was in Denmark last year and has a ecoboost 3cyl fiesta. It was slow, but still fun to zip around the countryside.

Corolla outsells Civic with only 132hp. Seems like most people would find a 127hp compact to be enough.

This.... Toyota is still stuck in 2003.. I cant believe they are using a motor that a)has that little hp b) gets garbage fuel economy compared to hondas current gen

Do sales figures account for fleet sales?

That.. And in my opinion toyota gives these and camrys away with the heavy discounts they end up doing if they see honda pulling ahead of them

In China we have the 1.0 and 1.5t. the fuel economy is very similar, performance of 1.0 is not bad, better than the 1.5 in econ mode, for sure enough for the average traffic jam commute but it doesn't sell well because the price difference is just 2000$ and the trim is super poor, the 2000$ are not enough to buy the included accessories of the1.5, the bigger engine comes free

Exactly, there is nothing wrong with 130 hp in a 2800 lb car.. for basic transportation it would meet 99% of everyone's needs. Who wouldn't want the even better mpg too. I bet Honda is kicking themselves for this.

This is how is should have went IMO

1.0T OR 2.0L for LX DX EX AND hatchback
1.5T Si & Sport Hatchbacks
2.0T CTR.

I completely concur. For me MPG is big and I will gladly give up some power to get it.

Right?! The 1.0T would have been a good fit IMO into base model civics.

No way, but I can see a 1.0T in a Fit or CRZ

Perfect for the Fit....I know people think it is not enough HP but the torque is what matters. Being turbo, there will finally be a "tuneable" engine for the Fit where a little $$ will go a long way with increasing power.

I drove a 97 4cyl geo metro for 7 years, it's enough baby.

55 mpg uk (combined) is about 40 mpg US EPA. I suspect the 1.5t might beat the 1.0t in high speed (70 mph) highway driving because the 1.5t is able to (mostly) stay out of the turbo.

I don't think the real world mpg difference between the two engines is going to be all that much, unless you're driving easy in a slow speed environment.
This is why it doesn't sell here - the mpg benefit would be small, and we don't get tax breaks from smaller engines like they do in some countries. It's also probably not much cheaper to build than a 1.5T.

I have fond memories of a 1.6L 100 hp Audi A3 manual rental car I drove in Germany. While it wasn't fast the engine revved so fast and free and sounded great. I took it up to 198 kph on the Autobahn and had a blast on Germany's perfect roads.

The specs are I think 142ftlbs of torque and that's likely from 1500-3000, so plenty of punch for normal driving.
