Praise for the 2016 Civic keeps coming as it has been named as a finalist for the 2016 NACTOY (North American Car & Truck of the Year Award). Now in its 23rd year, the NACTOY award is decided by a jury of 56 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada.

Winners will be announced Jan. 11 before the opening of the Detroit auto show. The VW Golf/GTI won last year's award for 2015 Car of the Year.

Honda Civic
Mazda MX-5 Miata

Truck/Utility of the Year

Volvo XC90

Press release:

Jurors for the North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year awards have named the finalists for their 2016 awards.

The North American Car of the Year finalists for 2016 are the Honda Civic; the Chevrolet Malibu; and the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

Finalists for the 2016 North American Truck/Utility of the Year are the Honda Pilot; the Nissan Titan XD; and the Volvo XC90.

The NACTOY awards are unique in that they are not given by a single publication, website, radio or television station. This year they are being decided by an independent jury of 53 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada.

The awards recognize the best new vehicles of the year. Jurors vote for the vehicles that set new benchmarks in their segments for innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value.

Denny Moyer, Partner Deloitte & Touche, turned over the envelopes with the names of the finalists – in alphabetical order – to NACTOY officials Joann Muller and Lindsay Brooke during a news conference at the Automotive Press Association in Detroit.

The jurors voted early in December, with ballots sent directly to Deloitte. Officials at Deloitte are the only ones who know the point totals.

On January 11th Michelle Collins, a partner at Deloitte, will hand over two envelopes containing the names of the winners during a news conference at the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.

Since their inception 23 years ago NACTOY has been proud to announce the winners at NAIAS, but the show is not otherwise involved in the process.

The NACTOY jury is administered by an organizing committee and is funded exclusively by dues paid by the jurors. There are no paid positions.

Last year’s winners were the Volkswagen Golf and the Ford F-150.

MX-5 is a great car I think it may take the award but the Civic should definitely beat out the Malibu. Are they going to rank them in order?

I'm calling it now.. the Civic will win! :D Neither the MX-5 nor the Malibu are game changers like the CivicX. Neither of them are as big of upgrades over the previous model as the CivicX. And neither of them are as good of a value as the CivicX.

Go Civic :headbang: This would be a big one to win. Impartial too since it's voted on by a big panel of jurors unlike the awards by auto magazines.
