Got the car in April & set the auto to the temp I wanted & re-circulating light was on. The system worked beautifully. Less than a month later, the 'auto' shut off by itself, leaving the re-circulating light on. I hit the auto again & the word 'auto' displayed as it should, but, the re-circulating light went out & outside air started being pulled in to cabin. I hit the re-circulating button, the light went on, but, the auto went off again! This went on for a day. Went back to the dealer & my service manager gave me a story about how, when I open the window to smoke a cigarette, the inside of the cabin gets really hot (I live in Phoenix) & the auto feature can't function properly, so it shuts itself off & leaves the re-circulating going. HUH??? Isn't that what AUTO is for? To control the cabin temperature? When I initially get into the car & it's over 130 degrees or worse in the car from sitting parked in the heat, the auto button never went off. In fact, my a/c works hard at cooling the cabin & does a beautiful job in just a few minutes.
It happened again a month or so later, but, when I shut the engine down & restarted the car, everything went back to the way it was, auto working fine.
2 days ago I was on an interstate in Las Vegas, all systems working beautifully & all of a sudden the auto shut itself off, leaving the recirculating air going. Same scenerio as the 1st time, so I just kept driving along without the auto working. I stopped a couple of times during my trip to take a driving break, shutting the engine down, spending time eating etc & when I got back in the car, the auto would not come on, but, the re-circulating air was working fine. Every time I pushed the auto button, the word 'AUTO' lit up, but, the re-circulating air shut down & became outside air being pulled into the cabin. When I press the re-circulating air button, the auto shuts off. It's been 2 days now & I have an appt at the dealer in the morning, but, I am wondering what BS theory he is going to tell me this time.
Any one else having this issue?? Any one had the issue & had it corrected? I would appreciate any & all input.
BTW...I have to brag. I traveled approx 650 miles the past 2 days, mostly highway with local streets & local traffic as well & I averaged 39 miles per gallon of gas! I am a big time 'cruise control' user & my highway speed varied from 65 mph to 75 mph & I even hit 80, 85 & 90 when I had to pass other vehicles. The car responded almost intuitively knowing what I was asking it to do. When I am home & do only local street driving, I average 25 - 28 mpg. I LOVE my Civic. I traded in a 2014 Civic to get the 2016 & I am so happy I did!
