I then opened by big mouth and said that I might be interested in the 10 year/150,000 mile warranty but I wasn’t going to pay $3,900 for it. He reduced the price to $1,700 and I said that’s fair, but I didn’t have $1,700 laying around (I did, I just didn’t want to pull it out of savings). He then asked, “Well, why can’t you just put it on your credit or debit card?” *sigh* Told him I’d call my FI and see what they could do. FI said that they’d have to reissue the loan, get the check back, etc., and I decided it was way too much trouble. Called Finance Guy back and told him to forget it, and thanks anyway.

Meanwhile I’m stewing over Finance Guy’s high-pressure sales tactics and overall bad attitude and how it put a black cloud over my car purchase. I called and spoke to a manager that politely listened to me vent and he promised to get to the bottom of it. Sure enough, several hours later, he called back and said that he made some calls to his bank and Honda beat my FI’s rate (2.32% vs. 2.39%). Big deal, you might say, but that meant that I could roll the extended warranty into the cost of the loan and finance it… and my payment only went up by ~$30/month.
Congratulations on your purchase. :) If I were going to purchase an extended warranty, I'd have purchased a genuine 8/120/$0 Honda Care warranty for $1,300 instead of some third-party warranty.

Thanks! I'm enjoying it so far. Been going easy on the acceleration until I get about 1,000 miles on it. I don't think engines really have a "break-in" period anymore but I plan to keep the car for a long time so I'm being a bit paranoid perhaps. As far as the extended warranty, my understanding was that it was through Honda and not some 3rd party; it's basically an extension of the 3 year/36,000 bumper-to-bumper Honda warranty. I'll double-check my paperwork but I'm pretty sure it was through Honda...

Honda doesn't offer a 10/150 warranty. The longest genuine Honda Care warranty you can buy is 8/120.

If you test drove/bought the car with nearly 100 miles on the clock chances are it was test driven hard many times by multiple people so no point worrying about babying it at this point.

I thought about that too and specifically asked how old the car was, how many test drives, etc. Car was only a few weeks old and my best guess is that it had 3 - 4 test drives based on the loop we took and how many miles was on it when I bought it (106). Only hope that the previous testers didn't run the living crap out of it. But hey, that's what the warranty is for.

Ok guys feast on this:
I live in Puerto Rico and yes, maybe the shipping cost, Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, it is an island etc.
The price for a 2017 Honda Civic SI
at any honda dealer ranges from $31,199 to $34,995.

Also buying at the end of the month tends to work in your favor since a lot of dealers are willing to take a lower deal in order to meet a bonus number for the month.
And if you can go to a dealership on Dec 31 even better

U.S. territory, but different market. In Puerto Rico, Hondas are sold exclusively through a group of dealers owned by Bella Group. You get North American models, but with different pricing.

David Henry and Michael Insall at David McDavid Honda in Irving, Texas.

I offered them MSRP + TT&L for an Si that was in-transit and scheduled for delivery that day. He said they'd only sell for MSRP + accessories, but wouldn't elaborate on what or how much those accessories were - he just said, "our standard assortment that we put on every vehicle when it comes off the truck". I told him to skip that since I wanted it right off the truck before they ruined it with cheap tint and pin striping. Again, he refused.

After buying my Si at another dealer, I emailed David to let him know another dealer accepted my offer and sent him a picture of my new ride. He replied with some sarcastically kind remark and said the car I tried to buy for MSRP sold for $3K over MSRP that afternoon. What a douche.
lmao, your photo to him wasn't meant sarcastically?

I too months ago had a few dealers quote me over sticker, but most weren’t - but rule of thumb- if you walk into a dealer and they have added their own sticker to the window sticker- walk right out don’t even try- go to another dealer - there is a chain here in ny Healy Hyundai, Jeep etc/ they do that on every car- crooks-

My closest Honda dealer adds thousands to every new car on their lot, but they'll still accept offers below MSRP (except the Civic Type R). When I buy a car, I'm motivated almost exclusively by the selling price - not by location, cleanliness, friendliness, or advertised prices. Once I've made my purchase, I never have to see that dealer again. I just ignore the additional pricing as if it doesn't exist. There are instances where I've gotten better deals at dealers who add on hundreds or thousands of dollars to the MSRP. Most customers will end up overpaying which allows them to sell to the occasional "smarter" buyer and still pay for their fancy dealerships.

If anyone in Ohio is looking for a great deal I got my '18 Civic SI for $22,214 at Great Lakes Honda, salesman Austin said they were having an aggressive selling month, came down from sticker $24,990. Finance guy asked me twice if I wanted any of the 7 package deals they have for interior and exterior and warranty protection, declined all.

They just lost points with me. Web site requires you provide name and email to see their "best price" to INSTANTLY see the pricing. I tried it, and got a message that a sales rep will reply back.

Done.
