Well have to say I feel very deflated. Originally I was super excited to get into a Type R and drove out of state to pick it up. Per my request I asked the dealership to leave the transportation wrap on the vehicle since I had a long drive back to the Cincinnati. So they left the wrap on for me and didn't wash the car for when I picked it up. Which I thought was perfect. Now today I drop the car off to get PPF and ceramic completed. They had to break some bad news to be. Under the roof wrapping there were multiple spots of etching in the paint and even bird droppings. Not only that they found many blemished areas all over the vehicle. Now I need to get the car and take it to a nearby dealership to have it looked at. Really hope all this gets taken care of.

Dang... that sucks. Hopefully it won't take much to take care of that.

Those all look polishable but damn. Swirls and scratches are going to be there but those etches are harsh.

Your PPF guy can polish that out. Looks like it sat at the lot in Baltimore (bird foot prints). My Ceramic coat dude said my paint was one of the WORST he had ever seen for a new car and it's perfect now.
Thing is these items were under the wrap used for transportation. Which I also shouldn't have to pay him to do all this paint correction. I was expecting minor blemishes and accepting paying for it but this is crazy.

My PPF guy said this is one of the top 5 worse new cars he has ever seen.

I definitely agree with you and can understand your frustration. Even if the wrap is on it, it is not perfect. Even BMWs, porsches, and other higher end cars are not perfect once unwrapped.

but do you really want a "detailer" that a dealership hires to polish and get rid of the marks for you?
That's what will happen if you take it in over there. The so called "detailers" that they hire will try to polish out the scratches/etches and at worst case scenario, they will repaint the panels cause they couldn't get it out.

IMO they can do more harm than good. I would ask them to cover some of the cost to fix the panels rather than having them try to polish the panels themselves. Although, it'd be hard to try to get them to pay without them attempting to fix it first.

That is exactly what I would prefer them to do is assist with the cost of having my guy do it. But know that isn't going to happen. We will see what happens

Hate to see that the bad paint issue is so common across so many Type Rs. I had 2 or 3 splotches in my paint that I easily removed myself with a polisher. Then even after sealing the paint plus a coat of wax my hood and roof are now sporting small water spot etchings from parking next to a grassy parking median at work where they sprayed the sprinklers in the middle of a hot Texas summer day in the sun. My roof also took one bird dropping last week while I was at work and by time I got home and cleaned it the paint was already etched. Even after V36 and orange pad the etchings stayed so I will have to go to wet sanding eventually. Thank god you can only see it under lights at night and not in the daylight. I love black cars and love the metallic black paint on the Type R, but this will be my last black car.

The dealer I buy from said both of the Type-R they got so far had similar paint issues. One of them also had a badly swirled black section of the rear spoiler and the customer actually took it like that.

why not try a compound with an orange pad and see if it'll come out before resorting to wetsanding. I'm assuming your talking about chemical guys V36 which is heavy polish. You can step down and go to a compound and see if that'll get rid of it.

Is there one you recommend? I have the VSS swirl remover as well, but that didn't appear to be abrasive enough. I'm open to ideas!

EDIT: Actually I think it was V32 or V34...... I'll have to double check when I get home. :/

VSS is super garbage. I bought it and have basically a full bottle of it still. What a waste of money that product was....

V32 I believe is chemical guys most abrasive compound. It really depends on how badly it is etched. Ideally you want to start off with the least abrasive and then work your way down.
I've used V32 and have gotten rid of alot of swirls before. Another compound I like is the Meguiars M105.
