Evening (or morning) all,

I have always used 93 Octane fuel in my cars. The owner's manuals say 87 or higher. I always figured it was better for the car to run cleaner fuel.

Most people I tell this to look at me like I have three heads and say "zomg why you paying so much extra money gas is expensive enough just use regular 87 it'll be fine" etc.

I have the EX-T. Am I wrong for assuming 93 Octane is better for the car?
Who else here uses it, even though they don't TECHNICALLY have to?

I was told that running a tank of 93 every month or two will be good for cleaning the internals and a little bit more performance. I have an lx where it requires 87 but it says nothing about 93, I'm still intrigued to try a tank of 93 though

I use 89 now but will switch to 91 if I get a tune. 93 seems to be a bit much considering the cost.

Octane rating has nothing to do with the cleanliness of the fuel. If the engine cannot take advantage of higher octane fuel, then it is a waste.

Having said that, the 1.5T, at least in the Sport/Sport Touring hatch, does take advantage of higher octane and Honda recommends at least 91 octane fuels.

You and everyone else that is putting anything more then 87 when that is all that is required is wasting money. Do the research on what Octane is for. It does not clean anything. 93 does NOTHING for any engine that does not need it.

There are no exceptions.

I have the 1.5T Sedan.

AFAIK, all 1.5T sedans are rated at 174 hp, so they don't take advantage of premium fuel.

Also, premium isn't even required in the S/ST models. It is only a recommendation, and those models can run on regular (87 octane). Personally, I use 91 octane in mine.

It's worse for the environment too on top of the things previously said

I use 94 basically every other fill up.

Recommended is 91 and not worried about breaking the bank.

Just think of what you buy and how much more it cost. Simplest comparison is bottled water.

I've never put anything less than 93 in my Sport hatch. While it may have been somewhat optional stock, my custom tune demands it.

I just make sure to use Top Tier fuel only to help keep things clean.
THIS.. But obviously if you are tuned, you want higher octane. And there are vehicles that require 91 or better octane and even mention possible engine damage if regular is used, but ours is not one of them.

93 with some ethanol in it is good. Most top tier stations have up to 10% ethanol it. For our turbos, this ethanol has a cooling effect and helps the car make good power.

This is fake news. I run nothing but 93 in my sport hatch, and it makes a difference. Do your research before you post dumb shit like this or just dont post at all.
