Lol @ the people saying it's not worth it cause they only get a few mpg more. It's not just mileage increase that comes with using 91/93 but the other benefits is, runs cleaner, better for DI motors, doesn't make your ecu back timing, and increase performance a little bit more. Also higher octane paired with a tune ( preferably custom tune ) yields way more power then using lower octane. All these little things make a difference. But in the end it's your choice. Just letting you know, there's benefits.

#1. The most real thing you said in your post. #2. The car is made to run on E15. If you don't believe me, read your owners manual. #3. I don't run a "TUNE", my car is stock and will remain that way. #4. Not everyone wants to race their car. Mine is a daily driver. Yours, is what you want it to be. I don't try to tell you how to run your car. Why are you trying to tell me, and others, how we should run our cars.

I have a blast driving my car. 2nd and 3rd gear pulls are FUN!!!! No difference between the fuels as far as I am concerned.
There you go. In your case, there is no point to pay more for premium.

I didn't notice a discernible difference at all BETWEEN 87 AND 91 OR 92, i KNOW WE DON'T GET 93 DOWN HERE. The LX runs stout on ANY TOP TIER BUT i HAVE YET TO TRY cHEVVRON ON IT.. JUST SHELL AND EXXON SUPER so that's what I'm running except only top 3 tier 1 as in Shell, Chevron and Exxon. Previous cars, I have seen some minuscule yet measurable difference but not a peep from this civic except a little with exxon and have yet to try chevron.

Shell V-Power or Mobil Synergy(93). Having motorcycles that sit for periods in winter got me using higher detergent fuels.

Calm your tits man. I know what fuel the car runs on. And I never said you had to take my advice. Do whatever you want to do!! Don't need to hear your ignorance. I don't care what you do!

This discussion forced me to recheck the Owner's Manual. Here is what it says under refueling (page 501):

"Fuel recommendation
Models without SPORT mode
Unleaded gasoline, pump octane number 87 or higher
Use of a lower octane gasoline can cause a persistent, heavy metallic knocking noise that can lead to engine damage.

Models with SPORT mode
Unleaded premium gasoline, pump octane number 91 or higher
Use of a lower octane gasoline can cause occasional metallic knocking noise in the engine and will result in decreased engine performance.
Use of a gasoline with a pump octane less than 87 can lead to engine damage."

Local gas stations seem to offer 87, 89, and 93 octane gasoline. I rarely see 91 octane.

I get lower miles per gallon with 87 octane based on two tanks (original from the dealer, and one tank where I failed to let my wife know which octane gasoline to use). With the improved miles per gallon, operating costs are about the same with 87 or 89 octane fuel, so I see no reason to use 87. There is a slight cost increase to use 93 octane versus 89 octane, so I will probably test both for a while before deciding. Criteria will be evaluating engine performance and potential for knocking.

Others may legitimately make different choices.

Thanks for the little snipit from the owners manual! I always would go with what is recommended. Even if the cost is a bit more expensive. You bought the car to have fun and be sporty. Why water it down? :)

You are quite welcome. I expect that 93 octane fuel is probably where I'll end up.

Good question. Maintenance work on the DC subway system has put a lot more traffic on the roads, so opportunities to have fun and be sporty are pretty much nonexistent during the week. Even late in the evening the back roads have been clogged.

I hope that the traffic situation improves when subway repairs are complete, although I usually avoid back roads in the fall due to massive numbers of sex-crazed deer wandering across the roads. :spaz:

Well i mean...You got the SI for a reason. If you wanted to not have that extra horse wouldnt you just get a regular civic or hatch and call her good there?
Remember, ours is a '12! The difference between the 1.8 and 2.4 engine as well as the handling is night and day (ref CR mag, etc). The 6MT and clutch action is a joy to use and the LSD is like gold in inclement weather.

Finally got my first fill up done today after 400 miles on regular gas. Found out the gas station next to my house sells 93! So im pretty excited. I did notice a bit more throttle response with the new premium in the car.
