How much was cost?
It was $1010.00 US. Fortunately, I was way overcharged on my HondaCare with my '15 Si, and Honda refunded me, pro-rated, all but like $50 of that cost...so I couldn't refuse....

Idk, partially because it cost 800 dollars, which contributed to around a 4k increase in my OTD price. Do most people go for the gap insurance?
Wow! my gap coverage was something like $200 bucks, maybe less!

I think when buying a new car the gap coverage is 100% worth it!

I am thinking of getting it. I fear things going wrong after the basic warranty expires.
There are companies in which you can buy an extended warranty as long as the car has less than X amount of miles and isn't older than Y amount of years. So buying an extended warranty closer to when the manufacturer warranty expires is an option.

How does $800 turn into $4k?

I have GAP through my insurance company. I think it's something minuscule like $30 a year.

You have a few months (6 I think) after buying to still get in on the extended factory coverage. I got 8 yr, 120K from Hyannis Honda for $910 ($100 deductible). For me, it was more about all the electronics than engine concerns. This car is full of gizmos. It gives you roadside for that amount of time, as well.
This is exactly why I do extended warranties. The amount I drive coupled with electronics is a great combo for absurdly high repair bills out of warranty. I have the HondaCare 6/100 on my Accord, which is currently at the dealer (for over a month now, a story for another time perhaps) for the "black box", which is the radio/climate/nav unit. All that went is the SiriusXM part, but Honda designs them to be all-in-one units. The unit alone retails for $6,600. Easily worth the cost of the extended warranty.

ETA: Since Honda split things into component parts for the audio system in the Civic (as it should be), the parts cost range if I had the same problem in a Civic would be anywhere from $185 for the tuner to $1,770 for the head unit. Even replacing everything associated wouldn't touch $6,600. But still, $1,770 is nothing to sneeze at if the HU were to go, and the cost of HondaCare from Hyannis is going to be almost half that.

Yeah, I pay $3 a month through Progressive on two cars. So $36 per year.

Okay. I'll take the chance of looking like a dummy.
I thought "gap" insurance was to cover depreciation of a car. Like if you buy a 2018 Honda Civic EX/CVT with Honda sensing (just a random vehicle) and it gets stolen/wrecked. If you owe more than its current blue book. Gap insurance covers that.
Yes or no?
Reading this thread it sounds like it is a form of warranty. If the transmission in your 2018 Honda Civic EX/CVT dies. Progressive pay to fix it?

Gap covers depreciation if the vehicle is totalled. Lets say you total it and its only worth 20k, but you owe 22k. Gap covers the extra 2k

Question on the tire /wheel protection plan. The way I read it, it warrants one set of tire and wheel.
3 years down the road, I have no idea which tires will be on your car. The tire selection of the dealership is limited . What would they do if I need a new tire and they don't sell my tires?

The dealership, if you have a good service advisor, will find the tire. However 3 years down the road, youre going to need at least 1 other tire, possibly all 4. Therefore, tire and wheel would cover part of your new set

And by part, i mean part of that one tire so youre not paying full cost.

Not sure if I understand the tire and wheel protection plan.
If I buy the plan for 36 months, is there a limit of claims in these 3 years?

I paid $300 for my gap ins. BUT it has an insurance deductible reimbursement deal that paid off in spades when I hit a raccoon and then a deer 2 weeks later.
