Ford does the same thing with the ST models. If you want a sunroof you have to get the Recaro package which adds several grand to the price. I wanted a GTI with the plaid seats, a manual and a sunroof. Couldn't get one...

Yes but that was a new thing specifically for the 2017 year maybe also the 2016 not sure but dumb dumb dumb..lol. Both of my previous GTI's had the plaid seats with sunroof, while I usually do prefer leather the Plaid seats look better to me and retro! To get leather you also have to get more options which raises the price almost 3K stupid marketing move by VW. However like I said they are correcting it back for the 2018 model.

Interesting, we have the same law here. Of course only applies when you're not in the car I think.
I didn't buy the GTI cause the hatch space is too short vs the Civic hatch. It has much less usable space, if you don't like stacking stuff.
Re-read the MGL - unless you have a large capacity long-gun you can carry it (always unloaded) anywhere as long as you have the necessary license (Class A, B(no longer issued), or hunting/sportsman license.
But, you can't leave it unattended without "securing" it - trunk, locked case, or gun-lock.

Latest Smoking Tire podcast had Senior Editor of Car & Driver on, for anyone curious of post drive comments.

40m 50sec. forum keeps truncating my timestamped link. There are more comments on it throughout the podcast, but I forget where (just finished listening to it)

Essentially... "it was nice" and not much else, then talking how the TypeR is.

Kinda sad how the Si gets overshadowed by the CTR.

I think the Si would have gotten more attention if it werent released around the same time the CTR.

Also think if Honda marketing focused more on how well the Si handles, which I understand being the car's strenght, it would have been a more appealing sell. I wouldnt be surprised if it got pretty decent ring times (which seems to be the latest marketing craze, but at least is more interesting than 0-60 times)

I think it is important to note that the Civic Si was on 235 wide summer tires (Y rated tires) while the Golf GTI was on 225 wide all season tires (H rated tires). If the Golf had been on tires as grippy as the Civic's then it likely would have been 2-3 seconds faster.

And if I had kept my '02 Si, swapped the engine, and used modded suspension with R-compound track tires, it would've beaten the crap out of both of them.

As usual, magazines test cars as-delivered, not as-modded-to-their-own-choices. If VW wanted the Golf to wear 235s, they would've spec'd it with 235s.

Why would you put H's on a vehicle capable of 153 mph? W's, Y's, or Z's are required - Sad if track let them run out of spec equipment.

It's also "interesting" that the Si is spec'd as RWD! Wonder what else is wrong?

I agree. Capitalizing on the handling characteristics of the Si was a missed opportunity by Honda. Ford did this with the Fiesta ST even with the more powerful Focus ST in the stable. Personally the Si should be a bit more tail happy like the Fiesta.
