Imagine a Honda dealer that received 100 Civics - 50 automatics and 50 manuals. On average, each Honda dealer sells about 1 Civic per day. Think about how long it will take them to sell the 50 automatics. 6-8 weeks, perhaps? Probably. Now, think about how long it will take to sell the 50 manuals. In this case, "if you build them they will [not] come". The people don't want manuals. A number of us "enthusiasts" do, but we represent a tiny segment of the general population. There's your answer as to why there are so few manuals.
You're just repeating your upside down argument: "Thousands of potential Honda Civic buyers are waiting 2,3, 4 months for their 6MT because nobody wants manuals." Fuckin ridiculous.

Let's look at one of Honda's competitors. Does Mazda make 6MT for their Mazda3 hatchback? Why yes. Yes they do. They make these manuals that nobody wants for all three trim levels. Can anybody that wants a 6MT Mazda3 hatchback find one to buy? Why yes they can. Fuckin ridiculous.

I just wish the volume knob and new head unit software made an appearance for 2018, but no such luck. Can't wait another model year for a new car though, so not sure what I'll do.

Who's to say it won't ?
Honda? Per Temple of VTEC:

"Civic Si Sedan, Si Coupe
CARRYOVER

  • After a brief hiatus, the Civic Si returned for the 2017 model year, benefitting from all the upgrades to the 10-generation Civic platform, including its dynamic design, more rigid and lightweight body, more sophisticated chassis and larger, more premium interior. With a higher-output 1.5L DOHC turbo engine and short-throw 6-speed manual transmission plus a sport-tuned chassis featuring a new Adaptive Damper System and two driving modes, the new Civic Si is the most capable, agile and best-handling Si yet.
  • The 2018 Civic Si Sedan and Si Coupe will go on sale later this year."

It would make sense to me that if the Civic were to receive a revised Display Audio system with a volume knob for 2018 like the 2018 Fit received, the information for the Civic would reflect this like it does for the 2018 Fit:

"FIT
ENHANCED

  • Adding to the Fit’s unprecedented versatility, excellent fuel economy and unmatched value for money, Honda’s has enhanced its subcompact hatchback for the 2018 model year, with sharper exterior styling and new features. The 2018 Fit now offers an upgraded Display Audio™ with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™, available Honda Sensing® suite of advanced safety and driver assistive technologies, and a new Sport trim.
  • The 2018 Fit goes on sale this summer."

I grew up with a rotary phone landline, newspapers and a car radio with knobs and buttons...
Moving forward I'm ok without a volume knob.

I know it's not the end of the world to not have the volume knob, it's just all things being equal, we know it's returning sooner or later, and I'd rather have it. But I guess not in 2018!

My 2011 Sportage EX has both, but I actually use the steering wheel control far more often...don't have to take my eyes off the road.

Not only that, anyone who wants to try a manual is out of luck. Can't even test drive them since there are none on the lot.

When Honda announced the 2018 Accord, they acknowledged a "save the manuals" campaign and have expanded the availability of a manual in the Accord. In reality, we'll see very few of them in existence because that's simply not what the vast majority of people want.
I might be a little late jumping on the bandwagon here but:
In this video uploaded by Auto Trend regarding the upcoming 2018 Honda Accord, the highest trim level for a manual stick shift is once again 'sport level' and not on the highest touring model. The youtube blogger who appears to be interviewing this gentleman seems to be a spokesperson for Honda and I don't know if this info was supposed to be revealed this way but if so he mentions sport will have it and touring not, which is quite disappointing yet again. Tmestamp starts @ 2:15.

As far as 'save the manuals' campaign, it seems to be more like the continuation of the previous accord lineup and not what we thought as expanding the availability; Which also most likely means no LED front headlights as well as oem factory navigation option for a stick etc etc.. *sigh* VERY disappointed.

My WOP sedan Si officially started production on Sunday (8/13). Not sure when it wraps up, but I would have figured two days to make. No VIN that I know of. Still, fingers crossed it's a 2018, but I'm having my doubts. If it is a '17, then I won't fret, considering there isn't looking to be any changes.

I had no trouble finding a manual LX sedan to test drive up here in Canada.

The 2017 Accord Sport was only available with the 2.4. The 2018 Accord Sport will be available with the 1.5 or 2.0 which will offer several features the 2017 Sport did not, such as:

  • Moonroof
  • Smartkey Entry system
  • Display Audio with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay
  • LED Headlights
  • External electric trunk release
  • Heated mirrors
  • Heated seats (these ARE available in 2017 Accord Sport Special Edition trims)
  • Standard XM Radio
  • Wireless charging pad for compatible (in other words, not Apple) phones
  • Instant Bluetooth pairing via NFC technology (again, this may not work with iPhones)
  • Auto up/down driver and front passenger side windows
  • BSI (Blind spot warning)
  • 2nd row A/C vents

Do we know when official costs will be released? Understand a very small price increase is expected, but need to know when dealers will know their exact cost so I can begin shopping price.

All depends on when the Embargo is. Jeff Conrad said they would have more info in the coming days....but that was a month ago at the reveal.
I believe Jason Richmond ("HondaPro Jason") said recently that preview drives were coming at the end of September. I expect pricing, EPA ratings, and full trim details closer to that time.

UPDATE: A member on DriveAccord.net said that HPJ announced the dates for the media introduction to run from September 26-28.
